ANALYSIS

BEST BET: RACE 11, JAIDEN’S BEST

-

FIRST RACE

NANO’S CROWN has won two in a row over this course when matched against $10,000 claimers like these; ready to three peat. R SWEET EXCHANGE and LOVE FLUTE finished third and second, respectively, when chasing the top choice June 4 at Gulf. Although LOVE FLUTE finished in front of R SWEET EXCHANGE last out, prefer ‘EXCHANGE due to her being 3 for 11, compared to 4 for 41 for ‘FLUTE.

SECOND RACE

RUPP is an improving, lightly-raced maiden that comes off his closest finish to date, a 1 3/4-length defeat when third June 18; now gets more ground, going from seven furlongs to a mile, to aid his steady-paced, closing style. MIDNIGHT ON BROADWAY battled brave ly to just miss after going to the lead last out on May 26, resulting in his second Beyer in the 60s in three dirt races at this distance. On the downside, he now moves up in class from maiden $50,000 following a short layoff. DUBULL also owns solid Beyers in the mid 60s; managed a second last out but in a race taken off the turf that was depleted of some of its quality.

THIRD RACE

MAJESTIC HEIR has been inconsistent since November, performing quite well when at his best and losing by 10 lengths or more on other occasions; still, have to like that he scored going away in his only start for this barn after being claimed. LEMON ROYAL blew away $6,250 N2L claimers last out in fast time when equipped with the addition of blinkers, but hasn’t reappeared since that May 28 start; regression a possibility. TIL THE END was slow to get going in his first start over this strip but got in the game late to finish fifth, beaten 3 lengths; likely sharper in his second race over the track, which also marks his second race of the year.

FOURTH RACE

CRAZY FOR SOFIA was bet down to 2-1 odds first out when debuting in a talented maiden field June 17, and though she disappointed with a sixth, perhaps inexperience was to blame for her poor showing; seems like the type that could like a move to a turf sprint. HOLY DIVER has already raced on grass, twice finishing third on the surface; less room to improve than others with three races under her belt. ORBITAL DEITY is a Mark Cassetrained first timer that drilled a bullet from the gate at Palm Meadows June 22 and followed that up with a solid work on the grass; acts talented, though the inside post is usually a disadvantage for an unraced 2-year-old.

FIFTH RACE

R GIRLS A CHARMER has struggled since winning a stakes race in January 2016, but could spring to life with the move into the first allowance of her 10-race career.MY DEAR VENEZUELA is another stakes dropper that commands respect; performed poorly out but seems a good fit against allowance/ optional claimers. LUCKY SWITCH has the talent to run with these and has Gaffalione aboard, but is unraced since February and lacks early speed.

SIXTH RACE

KABUKI owns a figure advantage in this maiden claimer, with four straight races with Beyers of 49 or higher; not surprisingly also in sharp form. MYMARTINA has also been competitive recently but hasn’t run as quickly as the top choice and is 32-0-0-7 over her career. FIVE CENTS PLEASE is dropped in class and still eligible to improve while making just the fourth start of her career.

SEVENTH RACE

TAKEN TO CHURCH just ran second at this class level with Zayas up, edging BRASS BADGE by a half length for the place; consistently runs Beyers in the upper 40s and low 50s on dirt. BRASS BADGE enters this race with good form on dirt and synthetic, only failing to keep up since last summer when placed on the grass; only needs to improve a bit to close the gap on the top one. EYE OF THE LION is a compete unknown on dirt, having raced exclusively on turf and synthetic, but he has at least faced better competition for much of his eight-race career.

EIGHTH RACE

FAIR PROSPECT seems a class standout in this $10,000 N3L claimer after staying competitive with starter and allowance runners in five races this year; won by 4 3/4 lengths the last time he raced for a price. BAREFOOT COVE won a slowpaced $10,000 claimer June 10 that was restricted to N2L runners and now makes the logical move into a N3L; likely needs the top one to go off form to have a chance of victory. GIANT’S VOICE woke up with a close fourth July 6 after a couple uninspired efforts; toss out his failures vs. classier and losses on wet turf, and his firm-course form vs. claimers is solid.

NINTH RACE

DREAMING OF JOEY performed well first off the claim to be third June 29 after setting the pace; perhaps the speed of the speed. NUTTY BOY was dull in finishing fifth when matched against open $6,250 claimers for the first time, but had previously run well at Gulfstream this summer in the conditioned claiming ranks; chance with a return to form. MY JOHNNY BE GOOD had a troubled trip most recently in finishing sixth as the favorite. If one excuses that race, he is a horse that fits nicely for $6,250; joins a cold barn off the claim.

TENTH RACE

OSVALDO rallied powerfully to finish fourth in a blanket finish at this maiden $20,000 class level, only falling a nose shy of third; reunited with Gaffalione, who rode him to a runner-up finish in April. ANOTHER SOFTBALL quit after chasing the pace for six furlongs last out, fading to seventh against Florida-bred maidens; likely needed that race after being away since January; two good efforts over the winter on the grass here. HOPE IS RISING often rallies to pick up minor awards but is difficult to endorse for use on top given his 29-07-4 record.

ELEVENTH RACE

Nine-time winner JAIDEN’S BEST is surprisingly still eligible for this first-level Florida-bred allowance and should clear the condition after facing what seemed to be better horses in the starter allowance ranks. MANOLETE has run fourth or better in five straight races for his current stable, and gets a slight class drop from an open N1X allowance into a race for state breds. ENTANGLED and SWEAT are recent maiden graduates that test winners for the first time, with the former winning in his fourth start and the latter scoring first out from the clouds in a fast-paced race.

TWELFTH RACE

GENAU comes off a pair of recent troubled trips, but now lands the rail with a short run to the first turn in this 7 1/2-furlong turf contest - a great draw; ready to move forward. BOSSYATTA surged from fifth to take the lead in a July 1 race here before tiring a bit late to be fourth, although only a couple photos away from second place; well suited to the company and distance. PROMISCUOUS FORCE finished second last out but at Tampa, and hasn’t been able to carry her speed as well at Gulfstream with a fourth and a fifth in two starts vs. similar this summer.
