BEST BET: RACE 10, FRENCH QUARTER

FIRST RACE

PEACE POINTS drops to his lowest level for $10,000 after a sneaky good fifth for $16,000 in his first start against N3L company, losing by only 3 1/4 lengths; an honest sort on the turf and well drawn toward the inside. GIANT’S VOICE was able to clear on the lead last out at this level and proved a game second July 29; efforts from off the pace earlier in the July resulted in a pair of fourths. CAMPAIGNER’S GOLD freaked two back with a 9 1/4-length victory against a weak field, and then bounced when fourth against $16,000 stock on the raise. Especially being a 3-year-old, he stands a good chance of now returning to his best.

SECOND RACE

EL DE DANI ran well off the shelf to be a close second after setting a pressured pace at this maiden $10,000; third in a pair of starts and upside second off the layoff. GASPARILLA TROVE was beaten a mere neck first out in an off-the-turf race before running dismally on the grass, finishing running eighth, beaten 25 1/2 lengths; now back on his preferred surface on dirt. THE MESS is another that goes turf to dirt. A Chicago invader, he has never raced on dirt - having short speed and faded in three starts on either Poly or turf when racing at Arlington vs. classier.

THIRD RACE

FAMILY JUSTICE is fairly lightly raced with six starts, and his current connections thought enough to claim him for maiden $12,500 last out; now back on grass for the same tag and likely to improve with a stretch out in distance. LEROY’S IMAGE, 0 for 16, is regularly a factor but is showing indications of being mired in the maiden ranks. In his defense, most of his starts have been vs. richer maiden claimers - though not his last three. COLD AZ ICE went off form in his last two after a pair of thirds in April and May; chance to threaten if he runs to his potential.

FOURTH RACE

CASE DISMISSED was given a short freshening after a fourth against richer in the slop June 2; a little cautious regarding her fitness, but encouraged by a class drop and her overall form on fast tracks. HOLA PRINCESS took 13 starts to break her maiden, but finally did so decisively. That noted, she got loose on the lead in the slop - usually a winning recipe. SILKTALE has struggled in her last two races but one race came in the slop, and she was bumped at the break in the other; did win for maiden $12,500 three back and is running for $6,250 N2L today.

FIFTH RACE

SOUND DEFENCE is on a roll, having won three of her last four and two straight; a very fast winner of a starter race last out and seemingly capable on the rise into an allowance. Class-dropping SHAKAKAN failed to keep up with stakes-quality turf sprinters last out after breaking through the gate and has been out of action since that Jan. 4 start. Look past that race, and her two other starts on turf resulted in victories; proven fresh. DELICATE LADY comes here by way of Arlington, where she won an Illinois-bred allowance easily on the Poly June 3; is effective as a turf sprinter, as she
