How to play the Pick 5

- by Kenny Peck

RACE 8:

MY JERSEY BOY drops in for a $5,000 tag and he seems to fit well here based on both his best figures and his running style, as there is a fair amount of speed in this field and he'll be looking to run late. He hasn't won at this exact distance but he has run well enough in routes out of town and he can be expected to run to those races given a quick pace up front (1).

RACE 9:

Lots of variables in this AN1X turf route, with very few runners with seemingly no chance to win. Further, it's a difficult race flow to plot, and that makes this an easy spot in which to hit the all button (10).

RACE 10:

GHOST WALKER was well off the board in his route bow last time but a slow start cost him, especially considering the fact that the speeds controlled the race. CEDARTOWN stretches out for the first time off a pair of promising sprints. WATCH YOUR WORDS was game in defeat last time out, and the Beyer he earned gives him strong credibility. THEY SHOT SONNY ran a strong race in defeat at Penn, nearly overcoming an unfavorable race flow to miss by just a nose (4).

RACE 11:

LIGHT UP OUR WORLD is the one to beat based on her Beyers, as she has the best figures in the field. GIANNA'S DREAM is the main speed in this field, and this foes look like a paceless race; dangerous if she's able to shake loose and back down the fractions (2).

RACE 12:

SAHARA GOAL is the one to beat and a potential single in this sequence, given the connections and the class drop, but if a little insurance is in order then BILLY LION HEART may be the right one to use as well. He wilted on a loose lead at Parx last time in his first start off the layoff but he does have back Beyers which make him appealing against this weak group (2).

THE PLAY: 8 / ALL / 2,3, 4, 8 / 2, 3 / 6, 7 = 160 Combinations ($80 Ticket)
