SEVENTH RACE

-

LADY BRIE got away slowly before taking the long way home to end up third when she cut back from a turf route to seven-eighths on the Tapeta in her latest. She’s stretching back out under Alderson, who broke her maiden in June. ENCHANTED could only manage to finish a distant second as the chalk in an identical spot July 19, but should be a factor for a live barn. DAWNMINO is charting unknown territory in her first start beyond seven-eighths, while descending from open maiden special company. Her trainer won a race the other day, and she wouldn’t be much of a surprise.

EIGHTH RACE

CALGARY CAT’s recent form was franked when the monster he just finished second behind in the G2 Highlander, Green Mask, came back to take the Troy Stakes at Saratoga with a 110 Beyer. The flashy closer is moving out from six to seven furlongs, the distance over which he just missed in the G2 Connaught Cup in his penultimate start. TOWER OF TEXAS won his comeback in the G2 Conaught Cup with determination, and had traffic problems before rallying for third most recently in the G2 King Edward. He was second in this event last year, before ending up second to Tepin in the G1 Woodbine Mile. The speedy DOWSE’S BEACH wired optional claimers going six and seven furlongs at Belmont in his two races since being claimed for $62.5K in May by the trainer of Green Mask, Brad Cox. HOOTENANNY is adding blinkers off a heartbreaking loss to longshot Go Bro in the one-mile King Edward.

NINTH RACE

LILLY’S GOLDIE reaffirmed that she’s dislikes the grass last time when she trailed at 5-1 in the restricted Victoriana Stakes. She’s 4 for 6 going seven-eighths on synthetics, and is nicely spotted with a $62.5K tag in this optional claimer. CASABLANCA KISS would prefer a shorter sprint, but should be a serious speed threat following a three-month layoff with Da Silva taking over. JUST BE KIND ran second to the future G3 stakes winner Ami’s Mesa in an identical spot June 30, and is exiting a narrow loss vs. 3yos in the seven-furlong Duchess Stakes.

TENTH RACE

WEEKEND UPDATE battled four-wide for the lead on the turn before drawing away in an explosive maidenbreaking performance following a long layoff in just his second start July 30. Anything closer to that effort would likely be good enough to win this N1X grass sprint. CITY BOY prevailed in a front-end duel before weakening to third in his latest. Note that his only poor showing came over a mile in a stakes for sophomores. THREE RING CIRCUS parlayed a stalking trip into a runner-up placing while beating CITY BOY July 22. Use him on the bottom of vertical wagers, along with once-promising BUTTERFLY DANCE, who’s send out by a trainer who excels with comebackers on the lawn.
