BEST BET: RACE 4, SPARTICLE

FIRST RACE

Older female maiden $10,000 claimers in the opener - so obviously faults aplenty...The speedy PLANET ROCK rates on top following a runner-up finish, though she has been erratic this year and has a low % apprentice up, lessening the enthusiasm. BOURBON HONEY is another that set the pace before tiring to second in her latest, with the race coming on a sloppy track. All four of her other efforts resulted in her running sixth or worse. PIKI PIKI GIRL managed a couple runner-up finishes before finishing fifth when returning from a layoff of a little more than a month and a half last out; perhaps returned a little rusty.

SECOND RACE

2-year-old maiden races always feature a number of unknowns...and in this case even more so since it is on the grass. GALILEO’S AFFAIR went through a sale earlier this year at OBS and brought $37,000,, and is bred for the grass; promising works at Gulfstream West for this first timer. CRAZY FOR SOFIA has the benefit of experience, having run sixth behind Go Astray first out on dirt and then responding with a third on the lawn. EROTIC KISS also showed the way in a turf race before fading to third, doing so in in maiden claimer, however, that came in her debut.

THIRD RACE

TIP SHEET lost his rider in stakes company last out, but was likely outclassed anyway at 38-1 odds; previously won a maiden claimer in fast time from just off the pace in his second start. WIZARD WILLIE was a workmanlike winner as the favorite in a maiden race, but did win at first asking, and starts for a high % barn. COAL MINERS SON, on the other hand, was a more dominant maiden winner Aug. 13, scoring by over 10 lengths, but it took him three starts to win and he already lost to rivals such as EASTER VIGIL and TIP SHEET in races in July.

FOURTH RACE

SPARTICLE debuted with a third-place finish with somewhat of a troubled trip against straight maidens; now poised to graduate with a slight drop into maiden $50,000 company for a cold barn that has been unlucky with a high number of seconds and third at the meet. CONTROLLED FURY has a pair of fourths in as many starts in Florida-bred straight maidens, but was slightly disappointing when beaten 6 1/4 lengths as the favorite most recently on July 28; at least the runner-up came back to win. MUCHO PROSPECT is a first timer that has worked promisingly leading up to his debut, capped by a 47 1/5-second breeze Aug. 18 in his final tune-up.

FIFTH RACE

MO BOURBON stands out on class and current form, most notably finishing a wide second in his first start over this track last out when matched against similar; likely to improve from that race. The aptly named NO DINERO would have left you with no money if you had backed him to win in each of his first six races, though on one occasion he did lose by only a nose at 9-1; top Beyers fall in the low 50s - below average for the level. ELITE KID woke up with a third last out but is unfortunately hiked in class from maiden $10,000 to maiden $20,000; few class jumpers are successful within the maiden claiming ranks.

SIXTH RACE

The speedy BILL’S PASSION returned to form first off the claim for a winning barn by leading throughout in a $10,000 claimer; aggressively spotted right back but for the same tag for which he was claimed by his current peeps; plenty of back class. BONETOWN WILD was a mile out of it early last out and rallied to be third, beaten three lengths by the top choice; regularly gets pieces but often seems to settle for minor awards going this five-furlong distance. ALL ABOUT YASOM is a class dropper from the starter ranks that merits respect but he is winless since last summer and
