How to play the Pick 4

- by Michael Hammersly

Race 6

COULD BE THE ONE showed ability with two solid seconds to start his career at Golden Gate. He was claimed by Steiner (37% off a claim) and is bred for dirt. SUSPICIOUS LOOK ran on well for third in his dirt debut vs. tougher at Santa Rosa Aug. 12. He faded on Golden Gate synthetic Sept. 4 but is back to dirt and drops. LUCKY CLERIC ran on well to be a good third in his dirt debut before fading on Golden Gate synthetic in start No. 2. Like ‘LOOK he may enjoy this return to dirt and the drop. BE SO LUCKY has worked well for a trainer who has strong firsttime-out numbers. (4)

Race 7

STORM INSIDE showed courage rallying gamely to beat maidens at Golden Gate Sept. 2. He was claimed by Hollendorfer who does not risk him for a tag here and he’s bred for dirt. LOOKS GOOD N A TUX invades from SoCal off a decent second. He was claimed that day by Thomas who brings him here with no tag attached, a most encouraging sign. (2)

Race 8

KENZOU’S RHYTHM continues his solid form, coming off a second for $50,000 at Del Mar Aug. 20. He was claimed that day by McLean (who does not risk him for a tag again here) and this guy seems to run on anything. MANILA MISCHIEF may enjoy this return to dirt as he won his only prior dirt start. He’s got some speed and versatility to give his rider options. (2)

Race 9

MYANGELCINDY is the one to beat off a game second in her debut at Golden Gate Sept. 3. It is a tad worrisome she drops off that good run. This is also her first start on dirt. SKIPAWAY TIZ was a decent fourth in her debut at Santa Rosa Aug. 4. She was claimed by a trainer who has sharp off-the-claim numbers, gets blinkers and gets a price hike despite being long out of ‘jail’. ALDABRA may appreciate today’s drop, the return to dirt and return to sprinting. (3)
