How to play the Pick 5

- by Kenny Peck

RACE 5:

Going deep in this turf sprint, as it seems a decent-to-strong argument can be made for all but one or two of them. Throw in the inherent possibilities of a chaotic trip in any turf sprint and it seems wise to use as many as the bankroll will allow. For me, that will be CONQUEST PANTHERA, COMMEND, LATENT REVENGE, MONGOLIAN SATURDAY and HOGY (5).

RACE 6:

BENDABLE has tactical speed and an inside post, and she should be able to work out a trip as a result. VERTICAL OAK was against the race flow in each of her last two starts but she was a game winner in her latest regardless, though perhaps aided by the wet track. FINLEY' S LUCKY CHARM has been working well toward her return and she will be tough if she runs to her best figures in her first start since July (3).

RACE 7:

DELECTATION was an easy winner in her last start, in Germany, and she doesn't meet an overpowering field in her first start in the U. S. DONA BRUJA is the filly to beat off a near miss in her latest, which snapped a five-race win streak (2).

RACE 8:

BRAVAZO doesn't have the figures of some of these but he seems like a horse ready to take a big step forward, given his recent works, and he certainly has the right trainer in his corner when it comes to that possibility. CAPTIVATING MOON was a close-up 2nd in his stakes debut last time, and he should appreciate today's added distance given his running style, pedigree, and the expected race flow. GIVEMEAMINIT and FREE DROP BILLY were a head apart in the Hopeful, where they benefited from the race flow. BOURBON RESOLUTION was a game winner against maidens, on the front end, but he has the versatility to lead or rate (5).
