BEST BET: RACE 5, ELK CAMP

FIRST RACE

TEN CARAT DIAMOND comes off near miss vs. notch better in crosstown finale. A beaten favorite in last pair but knocking on door, should prove too fast for these unless one of the new faces can run. MY NIECE LUANNE looks like the most logical of the first timers from win early O/T combo. Note near bullet half-mile in the mud on resume’ on 9/2. MARIEALENA another new face to weak category, has had plenty of gate work prepping for bow.

SECOND RACE

TIDE OF THE DESERT took a run at leaders, flattened out late but might have needed the race having been idle two months prior to the outing. Best good enough to beat these. DIAMOND SQUARE exits huge form reversal beating winners after a couple of dismal showings vs. maidens. Not sure what to expect today but obviously good enough to beat these again with repeat of last. ON CRUISE CONTROL comes off career best effort on graduation day and given ample time to recover from effort by new connections off the claim.

THIRD RACE

TONI ANN’S MIRACLE a beaten favorite in her last couple but doesn’t appear to be facing much despite the slight class hike, will defer to the experienced one in this lineup despite another short price. STORYBOOK ENDING debuts for barn with above average mark with firsters but not the five week gap between works aug. 11-Sept. 17. Might need one. MORNING GRACE adds blinkers, comes up tagged for the first time, beat four rivals in each of her first four starts.

FOURTH RACE

COXSWAIN in top form and entered main track only in light of all the recent rain in the area. Hard to look past if this one moved to the dirt. TEXAS RUSTLER an old veteran with a distinct fondness for this turf course having posted four of his five career wins at Calder/GP West. Just missed in crosstown finale, can be along this time with the right trip. BILL’S PASSION wired open $10K company earning big Fig in the process last time on grass but in new hands off the claim since that try. Just a question of whether he can repeat that type of effort for current connections.

FIFTH RACE

ELK CAMP, the day’s best, a $240K purchase earlier this year and a full brother to $165K earner and 2yo maiden winner Loya. Hasn’t missed a beat in the a.m. in quite some time. Should be too good for this field of state breds. R SECRET LIFE took money, weakened late after angling wide in his bow. Should benefit from the experience. TOSS likewise got a little tired at first asking but has shown promise in the a.m., another likely to move forward off that try.

SIXTH RACE

POP’S IRISH ROSE drops for return to what appears her favorite surface. Ran well over this course a year ago. Ready to get back on winning track. FLYING DUDE returns to the sod following a long absence, expecting big improvement back on grass. DON’T TALK BACK comes off good sprint try now stretches out to what may be a more effective distance. Figures forwardly throughout.

SEVENTH RACE

LIL’S FAST BOY back where he belongs after being over-matched first off the claim. The lone 4 time winner in the field and should be capable of handling the extra ground from looks of those 6 1/2 furlong wins last spring. QUENANE turns back in distance off pair of good second place
