BEST BET: RACE 1, DRUMCLIFF

FIRST RACE

DRUMCLIFF has been idle since winning his second race of the meet in a NW2 OS allowance/$40K claimer Aug. 20, maybe because this NW3 OS condition hasn’t filled on the Tapeta. He’s worked regularly leading up to this nine-furlong event, and is a good fit from a Beyer perspective. AMBERWOOD ran third at this level in his penultimate start, and is coming off a wide fifth in an N1X. NEW SENSATION is taking on the boys off one of her better performances, a second behind a rival who subsequently finished third in an N1X.

SECOND RACE

Chicago shipper VOLUPTUOUS annexed her last two outings, including a key $10K starter allowance at Kentucky Downs. Note that her 30% trainer has solid numbers pertaining to this situation. MY CANTATA won back-to-back $12.5K starters in the summer, but couldn’t keep up after leading the way in a recent N1X. RINCE TAPAIGH ran the race of her life last time in a $20K tilt, which she won by five lengths with an 80 Beyer. Can she duplicate that feat in this tougher spot?

THIRD RACE

SOMBRERO DE COPA is plunging to the lower ranks following a summer layoff, with top jock Da Silva retaining the mount. The closer has lots of speed to run at here on the Tapeta, on which he has a spotty record. PRINCE CHEVAL wired $3.5K opposition last time in his first try off a $4K claim at Arlington. He could be the dominant front-runner. HE’S NO SAINT has made his way back to Woodbine after a productive dirt campaign in Western Canada, and could join the fray.

FOURTH RACE

BULLET THEB LUE SKY comes off an inexplicably poor showing in an OS maiden special/$40K maiden claimer, during which she had a wide trip. She nearly got the job done the time before for $32K, and should have these $16K maidens within her sights. CONQUEST RAPID UNO is halving in value off a troubled third going a mile under Singh.

TWENTY-TWENTY CREST is also descending from $32K. Use her underneath in vertical bets, along with RARE GEM and HIDDEN APPEAL.

FIFTH RACE

MIDNIGHT FLASH saved ground on the turn before closing wide for second in her five-furlong debut about a month ago. The daughter of Midnight Lute has worked quickly since, and should welcome the stretch-out to three-quarters. Y’ALL earned the highest Beyer in the field when a distant fourth in a rapidly-run six-furlong maiden special at second asking. HELL N WILD has been sold since her fading fifth in the restricted Muskoka Stakes, and could be a factor in her second start with Lasix. LARKWOOD is another possibility.

SIXTH RACE

TULSA QUEEN landed on the edges behind Woodbine’s top female sprinter, Ami’s Mesa, in both the G3 Seaway and G2 Presque Isle Downs Masters. The closer is meeting much easier in this stakes for 3yo fillies, and has some speed to chase. JUST BE KIND has had a little break since her victory over older rivals in an Aug. 19 optional claimer, which came on the heels of a second behind TULSA QUEEN here in the Duchess Stakes. WAY TO VERSAILLES could get the better of THE CRAIC in the projected front-end battle.

SEVENTH RACE

SPECIAL CONCOCTION blew a clear lead in late stretch after setting slow fractions when second against tougher conditioned opposition in his second race off the sidelines. His tactical speed

may come in handy after breaking from the outside post in this shorter sprint. AWESOME FIVE pressed a tepid pace en route to a nose score vs. $10K NW2 stock in his latest. CONQUEST TOO SMART came wide from left field to beat $6.25K NW2 types three weeks ago. Put him in the lower rungs of the exotics, along with ONE FOR JACK.

EIGHTH RACE

FLIGHT DECK was a sharp debut winner going seven-eighths on the lawn Sept. 24, when he rallied wide from off slow splits to prevail with determination. The son of Lemon Drop Kid is bred to run on, and his trainer has won this event twice. DIXIE MOON is taking on the boys off a frontrunning second in the G1 Natalma. She’s worked nicely in the interim, and should be a major player under Da Silva. REDOUTE’S LIGHT placed in both of his outings in tough maiden special company on the Tapeta, and is bred for the grass. Use STRIKE ME DOWN and CRUMLIN NIGHT on the bottom of vertical wagers.

NINTH RACE

NINTH SYMPHONY dropped a nose decision last time while earning a pretty good Beyer in that $16K seller. His trainer has impressive numbers first-time off the claim, and he could track all the speed here en route to a high placing. SINGAND-CRYINDUBAI closed inside to lose by a half-length to his stablemate in a recent N1X turf sprint. He’s equally adept on either local surface, and is also versatile in terms of running style. WHO’S GOT IT, who raced five-wide in his last subpar race, could snap out of his mini-slump. Toss UNDERCOVER CAT in the super.

TENTH RACE

FLY DIRECT checked in third in each of his last two starts, both going long at this level on the grass. The North Light 4yo is bred to be a late bloomer, and shouldn’t be held off much longer. LEONARD’S

BAY brings solid Tapeta form to this contest, and deserves another chance on the lawn. RINGO

CLASSIC is dropping off an improved third in an open maiden special. He’s a must-use underneath in all exotics.

ELEVENTH RACE

ORPHAN QUEEN landed on the edges last time in a $20K NW2 grass sprint. She’s being reunited with Da Silva, who broke her maiden, and deserves top billing in this $10K conditioned tilt on the Tapeta. DONNAS SWEET HEART was hard-ridden from off moderate fractions for second in a longer sprint at this class Sept. 20. SHEZ A TEN I KNOW wasn’t far behind the latter in third after an ideal stalking trip that day. SOMEWHERE OUTTHERE is tagged for the first time following a summer layoff. She could be worst or first, or anywhere in between.
