BEST BET: RACE 5, NO RICHIE

-

FIRST RACE

Despite two non-threatening fourths this summer at Saratoga in claimers, C ISLANDSURPRISE is kept at the level at which se was claimed in June - $40,000 a sign his current connections aren’t giving up on this filly; recent fourth on the grass at Saratoga wasn’t bad considering the grass is not her surface (6-0-1-0); now back to the dirt. IT’S THE TRUTH drops from stakes company to make her first start for a tag. The move is logical following a lackluster recent effort and with her having run through her allowance conditions. PRINCESS DROSSIE never ran a step at Kentucky Downs over yielding ground last out but had previously won an allowance in the mud at Belterra; a winner over the Keeneland main track in the spring of 2016.

SECOND RACE

AUNTIE’S THE ONE will have to shake off the rust from a break going back to June, but other than the layoff is otherwise appealing in this suspect straight maiden race; decent efforts on grass and now back to dirt, on which she was third in her only start at Oaklawn over the winter. LITTLE CODE rallied to be third first out on dirt and then closed to be second to Keeneland followup allowance winner Last Promise Kept on grass at Kentucky Downs; logical contender. MARLINSPIKE, second in her debut at Woodbine, figures to be overbet off her flashy pedigree, being by Tapit out of multiple Grade 1 winner Surfside.

THIRD RACE

After six attempts in challenging straight maiden races, PETE MARWICK faces far softer in this maiden $75,000 contest in which few, if any, seem to be worth that price; like seeing the blinkers come off and a return to dirt. GREELEY CAN WIN rallied to be second for maiden $50,000 at Churchill first out after a slow start; doesn’t really face much better for a $75,000 tag. MEILLEUR showed speed and faded first out at Delaware when fifth, and then was second at Presque Isle on the Tapeta, just getting up in a photo for the place.

FOURTH RACE

KABELLA debuted with a sixth at Kentucky Downs in a maiden race won by subsequent Alcibi- ades winner Heavenly Love; should benefit from that experience and has the pedigree for more distance. MISS KATIE BUG ran third first out in a fast maiden dirt race and has since worked a bullet; an unknown on turf - but is by Point of Entry, who won five Grade 1 turf races during his career. DEADLINE was cold on the tote first out at Ellis Park, starting at 18-1, but ran decently to be fifth in a mile race on the grass; a couple quick works since on dirt at Churchill.

FIFTH RACE

Klein family homebred NO RICHIE debuted with a runner-up finish on the grass behind a next-out Indiana Grand winner in No Richie. This one’s sire was versatile, winning sprint stakes on turf and dirt. If this miss takes after him - and not her staying turf dam, Yes Beth - she stands a strong chance in this dirt maiden claimer. ALL DAY TRIP set a fast pace in a straight maiden race going long at Churchill and weakened to sixth after bearing out; adds blinkers, seemingly an effort to get him to keep a straight course. WEEKEND TOWN was much too keen early this meet in a route and hit the brakes to be fourth after setting the pace; likely better suited to sprinting today’s distance of seven furlongs.

SIXTH RACE

FIFTH TITLE had a rough trip when second in an allowance sprint last month at Kentucky Downs, getting shuffled back earlyand then having to fight through traffic in the stretch; should maintain his form at a route - having won at a mile and at a mile and at a sixteenth in a pair of grass races during the spring meet at Churchill. GIO’S CALLING owns

flashy figures earned in racing in difficult allowance races in New York this summer and fall; won an allowance over this course in the spring in his first race of the year. BINGO KITTEN overcame a slow pace to get up in the final stride to win a firstlevel allowance at Churchill Sept. 23; a winner of three of his last four, though two of those wins came in claiming races. OSKAR BLUES gets a pass for being outrun last out, as it came in the Hopeful, a race that regularly draws some of the fastest 2-year-old around; bounce back likely with a drop into an allowance. QUIP proved a game winner of his debut Sept. 23 at Churchill, coming back to win after getting passed in midstretch; cut out to be a nice horse. TRES EQUIS didn’t run a step in the Grade 3 Iroquois after a fast maiden win at Indiana Grand; quick works since the Iroquois at Trackside.

EIGHTH RACE

CANESSAR came to the U.S. with a nice French resume and showed his talent by rallying from 11 lengths back to win the Laurel Turf Cup over a respectable field; acts like a horse with a bright future in the U.S. grass staying ranks. INFINITE WISDOM finished second behind the top choice in the Laurel Turf Cup after winning the John’s Call previously at Saratoga; much improved since the summer and particularly dangerous when able to control the pace, something he couldn’t do in the Laurel Turf Cup. MANITOULIN has enjoyed by far his best year in 2016, winning three of five starts, including a race over this course in the spring; took the worst of the draw, landing post 13 with a short run to the first of three turns.

NINTH RACE

SPINNING SERVE rallied to be second first out at Churchill against maiden $30,000 foes and now adds Lasix for his return; up in claiming price but this is not a strong maiden $40,000 contest. STREET CAT SAM has yet to hit the board in five starts but has managed a couple fourths and fifths; beaten 8 1/2 lengths recently at Churchill in a better maiden $50,000 claimer. NASTY CRITTER is given a hike off the claim after a runner-up finish to for maiden $20,000 at Churchill in his second career start.
