BEST BET: RACE 1, I’LL TAKE THE CAKE

-

FIRST RACE

I’LL TAKE THE CAKE is coming off a victory at this $10K B level, the third of her career, and she gets to remain at this class because 3yos with any number of wins are eligible. She sticks out Beyer-wise, and should take some beating with Contreras back in the saddle. GINGER CANDY came from mid-pack to end up second behind the top pick when favored in her latest. ZENDREYA ships in from Presque Isle off a belated fifth in a $16K starter on Tapeta.

SECOND RACE

WEDGEWOOD came up empty after a wide/stalking trip at first asking on the grass, and then finished second in another six-furlong maiden special, which was on the Tapeta. The nicely-bred daughter of Langfuhr merits another chance on the lawn here in her second start with Lasix. MIDRAY is returning from a short layoff as a first-time gelding. He could improve on his improved second race traveling seven-eighths on the turf. ZUCKER could handle the rest with blinkers on.

THIRD RACE

POWER POP is dropping from $40K for her second start off the $40K claim, and has landed in a spot where she could dominate. BEL TEMPO is donning blinkers off a double-digit loss in a maiden special on the grass. She nearly won her penultimate start at this $25K price on the Tapeta. HALO LAELIA is tagged for the first time after running hot and cold in restricted maiden special company.

FOURTH RACE

COLTON’S CORNER has worked encouragingly since a half-length loss to Butterfly Strike in a longer N1X Sept. 17, from which the eighth horse exited to beat $32K stock (81 Beyer). Cutting back from a mile to seven furlongs might enable him to break through here with Contreras taking over. AYE AYE CAPTAIN finally cleared the NW2 OS allowance condition in a recent Tapeta sprint. He’s equally adept on either surface, and his trainer can do no wrong these days. SILENT JIMMIE checked in fourth behind Mr Havercamp and King and His Court in the Sept. 23 Vice Regent Stakes, after graduating over a mile in his turf debut Aug. 13. Toss HOLD’EMFORRANSOM in the super.

FIFTH RACE

GINGER SKY began slowly before racing wide en route to a non-threatening fifth at first asking going six and a half furlongs. The son of Sky Conqueror is bred to run on, and shouldn’t mind moving out to a mile and a sixteenth after working a quick five-eighths. LOYALTY BOY was second behind a dominant winner when going long for the first time last out in his third trip postward. HANDSOME LIKE ME figures to be a speed threat with blinkers on. Use him on the bottom of intra-race wagers, along with MARTINKELLY, who was nutty in the paddock prior to his last outing.

SIXTH RACE

TESSERON had a troubled trip in his only loss in the first three races of this endurance series. The handsome gray seems capable of handling the stretchout from 13 furlongs to two and a quarter miles in this final leg. SINE METU closed from off sleepy fractions to end up five lengths behind TESSERON in second in the last leg. Simon Husbands has his hole card. The long-winded synthetic expert MAJOR PRODUCTION is shareless in eight turf starts, but could outrun the rest with Da Silva aboard.

SEVENTH RACE

VILLAGEOFVIBANK is capable of putting away the other speed en route to winning this five-furlong dash for $10K starter allowance types. He was competitive

in recent $32K and $25K company. CORRYVRECHAN is 2 for 3 at the distance. The 3yo can hit the ticket after tracking the leaders. BOLD HOPE was a minor player in recent N1X competition, and his last race contained two next-out winners.

EIGHTH RACE

INFLEXIBILITY broke the 10-furlong course record after a three-wide trip when winning the restricted Wonder Where Stakes here July 30. She’s coming off a wide fourth in the G2 Sands Point, from which runner-up La Coronel exited to take the G1 QE 2 at Keeneland. SILENT SONET blew away OS rivals last time in the one-mile La Prevoyante Stakes. The gifted daughter of Silent Name had traffic problems in both of her losses. She probably won’t mind lengthening out to nine furlongs in this stakes for Ontario-breds. MYTHICAL MISSION was a prominent third in the Wonder Where, and has worked well since a wide/flat fourth in the G3 Ontario Colleen Aug. 27. Use her underneath in the exotics, along with GHOSTLY PRESENCE.

NINTH RACE

SHOW ME THE PRIZE is descending from OS maiden special company to an inviting spot in this light $25K maiden route, and may have found a field that she can topple. MEGALOPSYCHIA came up empty against much tougher open maiden special rivals when going long for the first time in her latest. She’s a wake-up candidate in her second try with Lasix. WESTLODGE DIVA stalked along the inside before flattening out to fourth in a recent two-turn experiment.

TENTH RACE

WILLY’S CASTLE faded in the drive after giving it a big speed try last time vs. $40K/OS NW2 opposition. He’s dropping to the $20K price for which he was claimed in August, and could prevail with a less-aggressive approach. ARTISTICO finished on the edges in his last few for $40K, and should be a factor in the third start of his form cycle. CONFIDENTIALITY is charting unknown territory in his first two-turn attempt on the Tapeta. Consider him for the lower rungs of the exotics, along with the slumping dropper CENAR.
