BEST BET: RACE 7, HALF DOME DUDE

FIRST RACE

A great trip for the value play in INDYGO DAWN. The 1 and 5 are the speeds and they should set the evening table for this stalker/closer. We love the jock switch to Mr. Stevens. What we wanted was a veteran jock that can read the Form and knows he can’t pick a pace fight with the inside speeds and win. SINCERE WARNING is feeling good and draws outside main pace foe. CAMILLE will try and be the speed of the speed. A few years ago it would have been a cinch but she is a 7YO now (about to be 8 in a few months).

SECOND RACE

BETYAR is a lightly raced 4YO that is feeling great. We think she is simply better on the grass. She has some speed and that puts her in front of her main foes. Any horse that can win its debut going long on the grass is very talented. COMET SIXTY TWO is your SoCal invader that brings solid figs to the party. Stevens/McFarlane are 29%. CLEVERLY BEVERLY is an old pro that has won 10 times and found the exacta 24 times. Works are well spaced but can she fire off the medium layoff?

THIRD RACE

BELLAMY BOY was just missing at the $8,500 level here so it makes sense that he runs much better for $3,500. His Colorado tries were solid but we think he likes it more here. If you say he has a penchant for second then remember one of those was by a nose and that is just bad luck. TOLL FREE looks to be the speed. Lone mile try five back was solid and he didn’t even get a breather that day. GRAND SUNSET is a grinder that often hits the board but less so wins.

FOURTH RACE

EL SUNDAR couldn’t handle SoCal foes early in his career but has found the right level since and shouldn’t be a maiden much longer. He will have little trouble getting the distance something a few of these can’t say. A troubled trip in his most recent. ROYAL CHARTER has been gelded and puts the blinkers ON. He did try better in his lone start. Works are solid and he is bred to like two turns. MOONLIGHT TA KELA was knocking on the door in Minnesota but those were state-breds. No more Mac Robertson is a knock.

FIFTH RACE

THREE RED SEVENS has run well in three of his four past turf tries on this lawn. Lone poor one back in March is excused as he pulled early and was wide late. He may have needed return try on the dirt at Emerald three back. He broke in the air two back which is actually a good sign. Then he wins his most recent even though going short on the dirt isn’t what he does best. Connections find a great spot. ROYAL PRIVACY is bred to love the grass but has only tried it twice. Why? When last seen on the weeds, he was finishing evenly at Del Mar going five furlongs. Current form is just good while a 19% turf barn calls the shots today. WHY FRANK is a solid veteran with good figs of late. Can’t say we agree with 7/5 morning line.

SIXTH RACE

BIG JOSIE broke poorly in her debut. Then she tried the grass twice even though she is bred to hate the grass. Now she drops for the money run versus much easier. ROYAL CHATTER has never run poorly. Added half furlong is a plus. New barn is 24% with maiden claimers. PRETTY EXPENSIVE just didn’t care for routing in her most recent. OR something happened as that is why she ends up here. Nobody said this game was easy. PERFECTLY SEASONED is by a 0 for 6 debut sire. Her dam was un-raced. Lone sib is 5-1-0-1 for 51K.

SEVENTH RACE

Lots and lots of speed and that should set things up nicely for HALF DOME DUDE. Race favorite doesn’t need pace help but gets it anyway. Diodoro has started the meet strong as usual. CONQUEST NITRO is one of two deep closers in the field. This gelding is improving by the hour. Toss that recent route try and he looks better. HUNDRED YEARS is the other closer and race flow is more than fair. We think this guy gets lost on the tote but passes some tried foes for the show dough.
