Dover Downs Matron Analysis

- By Derick Giwner

Race 4 - $186,000 Matron 3YO Filly Trot

(4) ICE ATTRACTION has been the second best sophomore trotting filly all year. With Ariana G nowhere to be found for this race, she is clearly the one to beat and the pick despite the short price. (1) DREAM TOGETHER has proven more than capable of chasing from second or third and maintaining position in the stretch. With the right trip she could potentially upset. (6) EVELYN has the early speed to make the front and has a pair of recent wins when catch-drivers were at the helm.

Race 6 - $201,900 Matron 3YO Colt Trot

While I rarely select him, (2) DEVIOUS MAN appears to be in a perfect spot this week having drawn inside of Breeders Crown winner What The Hill and other contenders. Iʼm not accepting any excuses this week! (6) YES MICKEY can fire off the gait here and grab a big piece, perhaps even the winnerʼs share. Svanstedt trainee rarely puts in a bad effort. (8) WHAT THE HILL was probably hoping to rebound here after a ninth-place finish at Hoosier on November 4. From post 8, unless the price is double digits mutuelly, Iʼd have a hard time even considering him.

Race 8 - $182,700 Matron 3YO Filly Pace

(1) IDYLLIC BEACH gets the far inside post this week and driver Yannick Gingras seems likely to take charge to ensure no worse than a pocket trip. Some beach some where-sired filly has been racing well over the last month .(7) AGENT Q will have to overcome post 7 but has the early speed to make it happen. This is an important race for her if she wants to win divisional honors. (3) OBVIOUS BLUE CHIP failed to fire from the second tier. She is a serious trip-threat at what should be big odds.

Race 10 - $210,000 Matron 3YO Colt Pace

Gingras and post 1 again here with (1) FILIBUSTER HANOVER, who has been stuck in the second-tier in recent starts. Expect plenty of early speed in an attempt to secure position. While I think (7) DOWN BY THE SEASIDE is the better horse, the post position discrepancy has me leaning to the #1. Either way, it is probably best to use both if playing multi-race wagers. (3) ROCK N TONY was just purchased by these connections at Harrisburg and now moves into the Ron Burke barn; improvement possible.
