ANALYSIS
BEST BET: RACE 1, TIZWAY THAT WAY
FIRST RACE
TIZWAY THAT WAY is making her GGF debut today, but she’s run on synthetic surfaces before and twice won route races. She is making her third start since a September claim and freshener. She ran third against better on the turf at Del Mar and then won at this level at Los Al as the favorite. She’s going in good form and has worked nicely since her win. She’s a pace factor who looms the one to beat. CRIMSON CLOUD scored a nice win at Pleasanton last summer and then went to the sidelines for more than five months. She ran well against better in her comeback and is dropping into a perfect claim-proof spot that she’s qualified for Stalker should save ground from the rail. HAL’S BUDDY was favored over the second choice last time after beating easier in her prior start. She’ll be sitting behind the top pair but will make her presence felt late.
SECOND RACE
The veteran AMERICAN ARISTOCAT has scored 10 wins over this course, including a game victory at this level last month. Since dropping to this level he’s won two photos, lost two photos and finished second beaten less than two lengths. Has two nice works since raced and gets the nod given his form over his home course. FORMULATE is getting a significant drop in his first start since last April. He’s run well against better down south, and the works have been steady down south. Yes, he’s getting a big drop, and, yes, that’s a big ‘for sale’ sign, but he’s also being spotted realistically. DANAS BEST hasn’t been a match for the top pick, but he’s been running well against cheaper here and does like the turf. Probably better a mile, but he’s worth a look in exotics.
THIRD RACE
RECOILING has never missed a check. She’s stepping up to the new starter level here as she makes her third start after nine months on the sidelines. Show improvement in start No. 2 and has a pair of nice maintenance drills since. Figuring you’ll get better odds today, which make her attractive. STREETLIGHTROMANCE pulled away from the top pick through the lane when second in her last start. Have some concerns about her will to win, although she did score a win last year only to be disqualified. Current form is solid, and she’s give three solid tries for her new barn since coming here after a claim. RED ROSE LADY has hit the board in eight of 11 starts here. She ran credibly in her first start in 9 1/2 months and should show improvement today with three works since that start.
FOURTH RACE
OUR BOLD PRINCESS has never run for a tag, but she’s stretching out and moving to turf. She tries stakes company at this distance on the lawn as a 2 YO, fading a bit late. She’s shown improvement sprinting since then so we’ll look for an improved turf try today. EVENING JAZZ, on the other hand, has been routing on the turf while running for a tag. She’s been second in all three starts and was claimed last time. She moves up to straight maiden competition for the first time since her debut when the top pick beat her. She has the turf form on the turf, though. STAR DREAMIN comes north for the first time and is making her turf debut. She’s by a decent turf debut sire and three of five sibling have won on turf. Barn does well with new faces and also firsters on turf.
FIFTH RACE
DIZZY TIZZY was overmatched in her 2017 debut. When she was then dropped to lower levels such as this, she hit the board in her final 10 starts of the year. She was the third head in a photo after leading in the lane when favored one notch about
this last time. Would like to see another work in addition to the two on her tab, but she’s going in good form and merits prime consideration with her decent early speed. WARRENS LIL MARGIE is coming off a solid win at the bargain-basement level in her last start when she was a lukewarm favorite. That was her first sprint in over a year, and she flashed speed while running so well that barn wisely keeps her sprinting. OURPRINCESSMELANIE makes her first start in 3 1/2 months, but barn does well off similar layoffs, showing a high ROI. She’ll sit behind the top pair and try to roll late. MACHO MARINI was claimed for this tag last time and should be coming into the race off a win. He stumbled at the start but grabbed the lead between calls in the lane before settling for second. He has the speed to lead from the rail but doesn’t mind stalking. TOP DRAWER was favored over the top pick last time and seemed to have all the momentum into the lane after circling five wide. He hung late. He’s drawn outside here but should be able to get a good trip and shouldn’t be as wide as last time. Past classer KOCHEES was stakes-placed at Pleasanton in 2016. He split the top pair here last time when claimed. Moving from one good barn to another, and new barn, which does well with new faces, has given him three works.
SEVENTH RACE
KITTENMEISTER won at first asking on the turf here last May and is running for a tag for the first time since then. He’s going in good form and need only repeat recent efforts to score here. His closing kick may work better against his cheaper rivals. MANILA MISCHIEF won at this level over similar two back after running fourth against allowance rivals in his first turf start here. Showed good speed in the victory two back and was claimed last time after dueling on the main track before tiring late. HE COULD certainly be a factor here. He ran third in his only other start here. He’s run all right against better down south, although he was winless last year. Based on current form, he’ll be a threat here.
EIGHTH RACE
First-timer JUST KEEP SWIMMING is likely to be an attractive value play here in her debut. She’s by a good debut sire out of a productive dam who was a turf specialist. All three sibling are winners. She’s worked steadily for barn that enjoys success with debut runners, especially ones running for a tag. C. R. GOLDEN QUEEN is the one the top pick will have to beat as she makes a big drops from straight maiden company to the lower claiming levels for her first start in two months. She hails from a sharp barn and has been working steadily for barn that shows a nice profit following similar layoffs. BONNIE’S RANSOM makes her third start following a two-month freshener. She ran third at this level in her comeback. She hopped at the start last time and was last early. She closed belatedly and should do well today.
NINTH RACE
LUCKY VIEWS won for this tag at Ferndale and has competed successfully against similar and better in Northern California. He just scored a game upset in a starter allowance race and is super sharp. He likes the track and distance. VOLKONSKY has hit the board in his past three starts, including two at this level, including last time when he was favored. He’s a past classer with a big bankroll, but he’s always been something of a nibbler. TIZ TITUS went winless in 2017, but his value makes him worth a long look nd even though many will favor the freshened Press Baron. Don’t ignore him in exotics.
