Splendid Saturday for players
It’s a huge weekend at Gulfstream Park, and it’s a big weekend on DRF Tournaments as well, with two of the final chances to win into the World Championship of Handicapping. The WCH, DRF’s new, takeout-free online contest, will take place the following weekend, Feb. 3-4.
Saturday, of course, is the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream. The eyes of the racing world will be on south Florida to see if Gun Runner can back up his strong win in the Breeders’ Cup Classic with another tour-de-force performance. The race will be very significant for contest players as it will be the final betting opportunity for those competing in the inaugural two-day Pegasus World Cup Betting Challenge. Additionally, it’s one of the races expected to be used in a contest sequence likely to rely heavily on the Gulfstream card that day.
DRFT will be offering a special stand-alone Grade 1 qualifier Saturday – meaning there will not be feeders for this one, just a direct buy-in. The contest costs $580 and 1 in 10 entries will win their $5,000 buy-ins for the WCH. The contest needs nine entries to go and is expected to do so.
For some horseplayers, Sunday is an even more exciting day than Saturday, with the prospect of a giant mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 carryover scheduled for that day. Contest players can take their shot at the carryover while also participating in another Grade 1 qualifier for the WCH.
Also on Sunday, there will be a one-day qualifier for the Horse Player World Series, a big-money Las Vegas contest at the Orleans on March 8-10. Players put up $94 and 1 in 19 will win an entry to the HPWS.
WCH landing page
DRF has just finalized a new WCH landing page, where players have an opportunity to read the official rules and purchase entries directly. Entries cost $5,000 and as many as three per player are allowed. DRF is taking no rake on the event – all of the entryfee money will be awarded to players. The current prize pool is currently estimated to be $500,000 and is growing by the day. Only 200 entries are allowed. Should the event sell out, the total purse will swell to $1 million.
