BEST BET: RACE 7, MIDNIGHT SEEKER

FIRST RACE

RISKY VENTURE is the outside speed but we think he can stalk like he did in his recent win. Perhaps previous allowance foes were a tad tough so a second shot at restricted claimers looks like a good fit. BEACH MODE is speed between speed unless our top pick takes off the pace which would then put him in a speed cracking spot. Third time with new barn and the fact that they don’t drop this guy to his claimed level is interesting to us. JOHNNIE B gets a positive rider switch and wants to pass runners unlike many of these. That was a nice win two back and it came with trouble. LODE THE GOLD will take a lot of $$$ but we don’t like his rail draw, other speed, all on the barn change.

SECOND RACE

SHIP IT RED ran evenly in his debut even if he only beat two foes home. This Kentucky bred is more likely than not to improve second time out and we like this outside post. YA CHUNKA MONKA did cost 16K. His speed might be the best speed and if so another front end breather can be had. FENDER BENDER tried two turns on the turf in his debut and that is a tough spot. Recent dirt route was OK. Let’s see if a sprint fits better and he does get in light with Werner up. SIR KOWBOY is by a 10% debut sire. His dam went 2-1-0-0 for 12K. All 3 sibs won including 2 multiple winners. REDNECK STRANGER is by a 7% debut sire. His dam was un-raced and this is her first foal.

THIRD RACE

RYDERROO catches a race with a lot of speed so maybe she will get another trip like her recent winning one. Second time this dirt can only help and she goes third off the layoff. Lone knock is whether six furlongs is a tad far for her. BOLD AT NIGHT has speed but is also cutting back and returning to the dirt. Maybe that puts her just off the speed and in a good stalking spot. PONTIFICATOR has some upside. We love the fact that she has 4 works since her recent allowance win. Slow and steady wins the race. Don’t forget that this filly ran well twice versus high priced maiden claimers in SoCal..

FOURTH RACE

Lots and lots of speed in here. DUPLICATE COPY is by a 0 for 17 debut turf sire. His dam went 8-2-3-1 on the grass and earned 116K. Of 5 sibs to try the grass, 4 won with the other hitting the board. This gelding can pass runners and is feeling great. Will he like two turns though? AIKMAN JACK surprised us in his most recent. We always thought this guy had some talent and his turf breeding is solid but going long was the question. His most recent puts those fears to bed. He draws inside and will get every chance to float all the other speed into the first turn. Here is where a veteran jockey like Stevens comes in handy. BIG TALL PAUL can pass runners but is stuck outside. He has won twice on the sod before. MANDATED BLISS might trip out best if looking for a long shot to throw into your supers. PLEASE BE ME is by a 12% debut turf sire. His dam never tried the grass and this is her first grass foal. MISTER BREEZE is by a new turf sire. His dam never tried the grass and this is her first grass foal.

FIFTH RACE

PUT YOUR PANTS ON won nicely three back and then tried tougher two back. That was just an even try last out but that race must have been decent if this guy went off at 15-1. This spot is much easier. STORM HOLLOW has some speed and draws outside. He can stalk just as easily and is feeling good right now. SAINTLY AURA just didn’t care for a route of ground two back. Nice tries 1 and 3 back. Will the rail draw hurt today?

SIXTH RACE

THORNY ISSUE was buried on the rail last out and then found himself far back at the first call. A nice try to pass runners and get the place. He draws better today, adds a full furlong, and goes second time this dirt. PREACHERS DREAM just likes it here. First time winners is no picnic but connections find him a logical spot. There isn’t that much speed in here either. It is always nice to see a recent work. RUSHIN TO JUDGE probably needed his return try. Notice that he only had one work going into that race. This gelding has shown some speed before. Expecting a big price.

SEVENTH RACE

MIDNIGHT SEEKER is bred to like the grass. Her first grass try came in only her second start and it followed her debut sprint win. Someone thought that she might like the grass. She only ran evenly that day but it was still a decent try. Her next turf try came going short and she lost by less then 2 lengths. She ends up in a barn that is 22% on the turf. GLORIOUS GREY has never missed the board on this sod. She draws fine and is often a decent price. ADLER is the fresh face from NoCal and she has won on the grass before. Her turf breeding is very good. Current form isn’t so hot but maybe she just didn’t like the fake dirt at Golden Gate. JAZZ NIGHT is by a 0 for 5 debut turf sire. Her dam went 12-2-2-0 on the weeds for 44K. Lone sib never tried the grass. SUNSHINE AND WHISKEY is by a 10% debut turf sire. Her dam never tried the green. Two grass sibs failed to hit the board. SONYAS GOT A GUN is by a 0 for 2 debut turf sire. Her dam never tried the sod and this is her first grass foal.

EIGHTH RACE

STORM HAZE is a grinder that gets an extra half furlong today. He might like an elongated sprint and he did win at this distance only five back. A jock switch to help shake things up. KAHULUI BLUFF has some back class. We can forgive that turf try two back but what happened last out? He didn’t get that much play so maybe he needed that race also? Jock switch to Hernandez and he is excellent with off the pace runners. HARD NINE is an 8YO so maybe he needed that return try. This gelding can surprise from time to time and often at a good price.
