Busy slate on St. Pat’s weekend

- PETER T. FORNATALE

St. Patrick’s Day weekend is a busy weekend at DRF Tournaments, with lots of contest activity that should suit you no matter what type of player you are or what your contest goals might be.

The featured event on Saturday is a Grade 1 qualifier for the World Championship of Handicapping, DRF’s big-money, no-takeout online championship. Assuming full participation of 200 entries – a goal that should be achieved in the tournament’s second year – the purse in the finals will be $1 million, and once again every cent of that will be returned to players.

For Saturday’s qualifier, players put up $580 and one in 10 will win their $5,000 seats to the WCH. Players also have the option of feeding into the Grade 1 through Round 1 events. Those games, which take place every operating day, cost $95 and advance one in seven players. You can also feed into the Round 1’s at even lower price points, and even play in frame games to get on the path to win your share of $1 million. Online qualifying for the WCH takes place exclusively at DRF Tournaments.

On Sunday, a new contest takes center stage on DRFT: Monmouth’s Pick Your Prize event, which takes place in early June at the New Jersey track. The Monmouth contest is a live-bank contest that costs $2,000 to play and has become a late-spring cornerstone for many players in its two years of existence.

Sunday’s qualifier costs $126 and one in 23 entries will win packages worth $2,500 – a $2,000 Monmouth buy-in plus $500 in travel. For the contest to go, 20 entries are required.

Also on Sunday, players will compete for entries in NYRA’s next contest, the Wood Memorial Challenge. That one is a $500 live-bank contest happening on Wood Memorial Day, April 7 at the Big A. For the qualifier, entries cost $60 and one in 10 win their way in to the Wood contest.

There is also a full slate of feeders, matchups, and winnertake-all games happening on DRFT this weekend at a variety of price points. Keep an eye out for chances to win into the next World Horseplayers’ Tour/Santa Anita Preakness contest. DRF Tournaments is the only place you win into that one.
