How to play the Pick 5

- by Kenny Peck

RACE 6: While recognizing you have to use LIMOUSINE LIBERAL I'm not willing to concede the race to the 6/5 Morning Line favorite, who makes his first start since November. BEHAVIORAL BIAS was game in defeat when last seen and he has a solid back Beyer at this distance. WESTWOOD could be the main speed. FIRST PREMIO cuts back in distance and should be rolling late (4).

RACE 7: KID PERFECT is certainly more a "B" or "C" play on a structured ticket but he's nonetheless on this ticket off proven turf/sprint form and some solid works. BIG HANDSOME has tactical speed, a barn which wins at a good rate in short turf races and solid races under these conditions, making him an easy horse to use. BOUND FOR NOWHERE was sharp in his lone grass sprint try to date, and it was over this course. DISCO PARTNER is obviously the one to beat in his seasonal debut; will need to overcome a wide post at a short price (4).

RACE 8: Going deep in The Madison, and if the bankroll would've allowed it the play would have been even deeper. LEWIS BAY, BERNED, AMI'S MESA, AMERICAN GAL and FINLEY'SLUCKYCHARM will have to cover it but Berned is the best value of the group, coming off a loss but one where she was against the race flow (5).

RACE 9: MONOMOY GIRL is the single, and while Eskimo Kisses is dangerous the ticket cost would double using them both, and a stand has to be taken to allow for spreads in other races. Key scratches in those legs could allow for the use of both but if it has to be one of the two Monomoy Girl gets the edge thanks to her tactical speed, as her main rival will spot position to the favorite (1).

RACE 10: Solid edition of the Toyota Blue Grass, a deep field where several have a legit shot, some at big prices. KANTHAKA fits off his last couple of figures and he should get a favorable pace scenario this time. QUIP was a game winner in the Tampa Bay Derby and he's worked very well in the interim. MARCONI and MACHISMO didn't get the best of set ups in the Fountain of Youth and both could be poised for steps forward. GOOD MAGIC is an easy horse to use, though he's tough to lean on as a lynchpin in this sequence (5).
