FIRST RACE

SECOND RACE
EXTENDED WARRANTY won his debut even though it was turf route. That is very tough and hats off to Esteban Martinez (he won with another debut turf router last week). This gelding is bred to like the grass and keeps the white hot Arrieta. This barn is only 45% on the grass. SUANCES SECRET was rank in the early running of his most recent race yet still ran well losing by less than a length. It was also a Beyer top. For some strange reason, this gelding is often a good price. FLOWER BEACH has some nice figs but has lost as the favorite in seven, yes seven, straight races. Is that some kind of a record? Three times at less than even money. Yikes. Yet public H-cappers continue to pick this runner on top. Maybe the short layoff will help. PAR PLAY is by a 7% debut turf sire. His dam was un-raced. Lone sibling is 12-3-1-3 on the grass and earned 233K (won sod debut). This gelding could show some speed in this spot and there isn’t a ton of pace in here.
THIRD RACE
BRENDA’S BAR is an 8YO that goes third off the layoff following a much improved second off the layoff start. Plus, he gets back to two turns which he does very well (flat mile 19-4-4-4). This barn is 3 for 10 on the stretch-out. LOOKIN AWESOME ran OK last out but he was stuck in the 9 hole which had to hurt. He draws better today and gets a jock switch to Hernandez who we like with this type of runner. DUALLY AFFIRMED is better of late. He has a little bit of tactical speed but this post still hurts. He is often a good price but with the class drop that figures not so much today.
FOURTH RACE
FLY FOR FREE returned off the medium layoff and drew the rail where he promptly broke dead last. He ran evenly after that and got what he needed out of that race. Now he drops to the easiest level at this track. His last two wins came on the front end and there is no speed in this race. With a good break and some early encouragement from Garcia, maybe this gelding can clear off and laugh all the way to the bank (30-1 on the morning line). ANTARES DREAM and LOTA SPUNK are the two favorites. Neither has any speed so today’s lack of pace hurts. Edge to ANTARES DREAM off recent improved effort. LOTA SPUNK has hit the board on this dirt in 5 of 8 starts.
FIFTH RACE
S U M RACER just didn’t fire last out but sometimes the girls just throw in a poor one. This mare gets a ton of pace to chase and that should make for a perfect trip. She gets the hot jock in Arrieta and figures a good price. The lone knock is this outside post. HIP NINETY THREE is just a solid runner and she loves this sod. She draws well and figures to save all the early ground. We don’t see Stevens ride often for Frazier but Scott is 3 for 6 when he does. TRICK CITY will try and be the speed of the speed. Once again, he draws inside and that is a huge help. Still, there is a lot of other speed in here. Horse for course enthusiasts will note 4 for 4 local tab.
SIXTH RACE
BON was fractious at the gate in her debut but that isn’t something we haven’t seen before. She ran evenly for a half before tiring versus much better. Class drop and jock switch tell us one thing .... here comes the money run. AWESOME ROMANCE will get there one of these days. This field is about average. Does the full furlong cut back help or hurt? HUNTED GAL got some decent figs in her first two starts at Golden Gate. She got some play in her local debut and showed some speed before spitting the bit. New jock is noted.
SEVENTH RACE
MAGIK PEPPER might have needed his return try and he was sprinting. He gets back to two turns today and puts the blinkers ON. This gelding gets in light with the apprentice up and maybe that helps his front speed. This barn is 2 for 2 with their route runners. SPECTACULAR ONE broke his maiden at today’s distance only five back. Forget the turf try four back. He caught a wet track two back. Those efforts 1 and 3 back were OK. VAN HAGAR has a grinding style and a better last out race. Maybe that is enough to hit the board at this level.
