Pink Lloyd guns for 11 in row

- By Alex Campbell

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Pink Lloyd will look to extend his unprecedented winning streak in Woodbine stakes to 11 in Sunday’s $125,000 Achievement Stakes for Ontario-bred 3-yearolds and up over six furlongs on Tapeta.

Pink Lloyd’s streak hit double digits with his 6 1/4-length victory over Lo kin for purse monee in the New Providence Stakes on May 13. He earned a 101 Beyer Speed Figure in winning the race for the second year in a row.

“We should really appreciate this horse because they just don’t come along,” trainer Robert Tiller said following the New Providence. “The LeBron James of Canadian horse racing, does that fit? That’s what I’m saying.”

Pink Lloyd faced three rivals in the New Providence, and four will take on last season’s Canadian Horse of the Year in the Achievement. Pink Lloyd would cross the $1 million mark in career earnings by finishing first or second.

KEY CONTENDERS

Pink Lloyd, by Old Forester Last 3 Beyers: 101-106-103

◗ Pink Lloyd won last year’s Achievement by 5 1/4 lengths and earned a 105 Beyer. His campaign this year has mirrored last year’s so far, with victories in the Jacques Cartier and New Providence stakes in his first two races.

◗ Pink Lloyd’s tactical speed makes him dangerous, and he likely will be sitting just off Yorkton in the early going.

Yorkton, by Speightstown Last 3 Beyers: 90-76-82

◗ He went to the lead last out in a May 12 allowance but couldn’t hold off San Nicola Thunder in the final strides. He’s the likely pacesetter in the Achievement, but he was cross-entered in Saturday’s Grade 2 Connaught Cup on turf.

Conquest Lemonraid, by Lemon Drop Kid Last 3 Beyers: 82-82-79

◗ He’ll make his first start since his seventh-place finish in the Breeders’ Stakes last August over 1 1/2 miles on turf. Four of his five starts last season came in route races, but his lone win came in a sprint over seven furlongs on the Tapeta.

Lo kin for purse monee, by Silent Name Last 3 Beyers: 86-84-77

◗ He made his 4-year-old debut in the New Providence and finished second. He’s won two of his four starts at six furlongs on Tapeta, taking the Woodstock Stakes as a 3-yearold and the Victoria Stakes as a 2-year-old. He’ll likely be coming from off the pace like in those races.

Occasional View, by Silver Deputy Last 3 Beyers: 85-91-90

◗ The 10-year-old gelding began his season with a thirdplace finish in a turf allowance May 21. He faced Pink Lloyd in last year’s Grade 2 Kennedy Road Stakes, finishing fourth. His most recent stakes race prior to that was a fifth-place finish in the 2016 Achievement.
