BEST BET: RACE 3, WHATTA GIRL

FIRST RACE

MOON OVER VICTORIA rallied inside to finally break through in her second race off the bench May 16, from which the runner-up exited to beat $8K maidens by daylight. MEGALIN CANDY hung late after looking the part of a winner in each of her last two outings. TREETOP SINGER is plunging from $40K to where her speed should make her a factor.

SECOND RACE

PLEASANT FOREST has worked well, and is debuting with a blend of speed and stamina in his pedigree. His trainer is 0 for 10 with firsters in routes over the past five years, but this homebred could end the drought. GINGER SKY just missed in his seven-furlong comeback, and is moving out to a suitable distance for a live barn. ANALYZER was along for third when making his first start in an identical spot May 16.

THIRD RACE

Over an inside-biased track Dec. 10, WHATTA GIRL raced wide all the way while closing for a neck loss in a seven-furlong N1X. She’s worked extensively for her return to action, and should be ready to fire one of her better shots. MISS SAVVY shook loose up front and kept on going to land her second $40K conditioned claimer in a row May 18. The pace scenario figures to be more taxing for her in this acid test. I’LL TAKE THE CAKE placed in each of her last three tries in N1X company.

FOURTH RACE

LEONARD’S BAY had a troubled trip in each of his races at the meet, yet was beaten under two lengths both times. He seems poised to break through here if things go his way. SILENT JIMMIE raced wide all the way in mid-pack over a speedbiased track in his subpar showing as the favorite three weeks ago. He’s no stranger to rounding out the exacta. THE YOUNG LORD rode the aforementioned bias to finish a close/game second in his improved second start off the shelf May 13.

FIFTH RACE

FLASHY PATCH was competitive in three of her four turf attempts, and is coming off a second to the favorite in a $10K starter on the Tapeta. This third start of her form cycle could lead to a peak performance. HASSAH closed wide from left field to upset Quidi Vidi in a recent $20K turf sprint. SHOW SHAPE faded to fourth last time after vying for the lead, which is not her most effective running style.

SIXTH RACE

REAL TREASURE worked okay from the gate May 26, and could prevail at first asking in this short maiden special dash, even though she’s bred to run long. GUESTIMATION and FLY AWAY BIRDIE breezed a half-mile together from the pole in :48.20 on May 26, for Woodbine’s perennial leading baby trainer Mark Casse. The former is a halfbrother to juvenile stakes winner Spring Tempest. SAV is a half-sister to Queen’s Plate contender Cooler Mike, who graduated at first asking.

SEVENTH RACE

GLENCAIRN has been gelded since his second straight fringe finish Feb. 11 at Gulfstream. The imposing 4yo has worked fast leading up to this second-level optional claimer, and gets leading rider Hernandez, who’s 5 for 11 at the meet for the Attfield barn. HOLLYWOOD HIDEAWAY wintered in South Carolina after his prominent third (100 Beyer) in a Nov. 18 stakes at Aqueduct, and has been working right along. CLEOPATRA’S STRIKE is another first-time gelding returning from a layoff who could have a say in the outcome. SEEKING ALBERT, who wants more ground than a mile, can

CONQUEST LEMONRAID has been working up a storm for his season debut, and should be muchimproved this year as a new gelding. The 4yo nearly won the one-mile Charlie Barley Stakes on turf last July, but sprinting on the Tapeta might be his specialty. PINK LLOYD will be a skimpy price while seeking his 11th consecutive stakes score. The reigning Canadian Horse of the Year drew ideally on the outside, and note that he earned a 105 Beyer for winning this event from an outside draw last year. LOKINFORPURSEMONEE finished a distant second behind PINK LLOYD when returning from an extended layoff in his 4yo bow in the May 13 New Providence Stakes.

NINTH RACE

COURT BATTLE is bred for the grass on the sire’s side. The son of Court Vision figures to be a speed threat off the McKnight claim, a high-percentage angle. POQUITO BANDITO is another 3yo trying the turf for the first time. He’s a half-brother to turf stakes winner Too Many Egbert’s. First-timer NORTHERN SKY is by a Canadian turf champion, and his dam has thrown a winner on the lawn.

TENTH RACE

CU AT THE FINISH LINE is by theG1-w innings printer Majesticperfection, who’s sired a good 14% firstout winners. She’s the first foal from a dam who notched her debut, and her trainer has hit with two older first-timers at the meet. AIRBRUSHED broke slowly before checking in fourth in a shorter sprint at this price when bet down to 3-2 in her May 11 bow. HOLD ON WERE GO IN HOME is dropping to a logical spot for her second race off a layoff/claim.

ELEVENTH RACE

SCRAM CRACKER placed in one of his three grass outings last year, and the 4yo seems well-spotted here for $16K in his return from a sabbatical. Leading rider Hernandez has the call on the son of Scat Daddy. MARSELAN finished on the fringes in both of his starts at the meet, in a pair of $20K sprints on the Tapeta. UNDERMINE missed the break and then ran against a speed bias when up the track in his $40K debut on the main track. He’s bred for the turf on the sire’s side, so use him on the bottom of vertical wagers, along with KISSOFFIRE. 555 Rexdale Blvd. Rexdale, Ontario M9W 5L2 (416) 675-7223 Main track: One mile, oval. Distance from last turn to finish line: 975 feet. Harness track: Seven furlongs. Turf course: One and one half miles. Distance from last turn to finish line: 1,440 feet.
