How to play the Pick 4

- by Kenny Peck

RACE 8: ON LEAVE and PROCTOR'S LEDGE were a half-length apart in the Distaff Turf Mile at Churchill. LULL was sharp in the Honey Fox when on the lead but he can also rate if need be. OFF LIMITS has been running deceptively well in defeat of late. A RAVING BEAUTY made a strong impression in her U. S. debut and is clearly one to use here. LA CORONEL is wide but she has the tactical speed to work out a trip (6).

RACE 9: GOOD SAMARITAN was hurt by the race flow in the Alysheba but he has been working very well of late. BEE JERSEY is the main speed in a race which is light on same; could get brave and steal the Met Mile if unpressured from the start (2).

RACE 10: SADLER'S JOY has a powerful late kick and should be better set up than he has been in his last few starts. With his main rivals all horses who want to be close up he may be able to run them all down in the stretch. BEACH PATROL will be tough if he doesn't get torched by a blazing early pace; ability to rate a big plus in that regard (2).

RACE 11: BLENDED CITIZEN overcame a bias to win the Jeff Ruby Steaks, he ran deceptively well in the Blue Grass and he rallied to score in the Peter Pan despite a lack of pace. He also should appreciate the added distance. GRONKOWSKI has worked well toward the Belmont and he certainly has tactical speed; connections another plus. Obviously have to use JUSTIFY despite an apparent regression in the Preakness and a tough inside draw today (3).
