Stakes-winning stablemates head nine-horse Niagara
Multiple stakes winners and stablemates I Still Miss You and Indy’s Lady will bring contrasting running styles into the $50,000 Niagara on Monday at Finger Lakes.
The restricted Niagara, at six furlongs, drew a field of nine 3-year-old fillies bred in New York. Also set to start is New Girl in Town, a winner of back-to-back allowances this meet at Finger Lakes.
I Still Miss You could show the way from post 2.
“We’re going to ask her away from there and let her use her normal speed,” trainer Jeremiah Englehart said.
Indy’s Lady figures to bid from off the pace from post 9.
“She likes being on the outside,” Englehart said. “We got a good post with her. She’ll sit behind the speed.”
KEY CONTENDERS I Still Miss You, by Majestic Warrior Last 3 Beyers: 31-71-75
◗ She is moving back into restricted company following a seventh-place finish in the Grade 3 Miss Preakness on May 18. The six-furlong race was run on a sloppy, sealed main track at Pimlico.
“I don’t think in her last race she really liked the track much,” Englehart said. “She kind of flipped her palate, shut herself down early. I expect her to show her usual speed. She’s training well coming into this race.”
◗ I Still Miss You has worked back at Belmont Park since the Miss Preakness, and Englehart said he awaited the Niagara for the filly rather than running back in the Bouwerie for New York-breds on May 28 because that race was over seven furlongs. I Still Miss You’s last win came at six furlongs against New York-breds in the Key Cents last November at Aqueduct. Last June, she defeated open company in the 5 1/2-furlong Astoria at Belmont.
◗ I Still Miss You is from the mare Lion’s Terms, who won 16 races from 43 starts for earnings of $235,042.
◗ Finger Lakes leading rider Jaime Rodriguez has the mount for Gold Star Racing Stable, Matthew Hand, and Brian McKenzie.
Indy’s Lady, by Take Charge Indy Last 3 Beyers: 36-68-70
◗ She’s a two-time stakes winner, accounting for the $116,000 Lady Finger Stakes and the $50,000 Shesastonecoldfox, both for New Yorkbreds last season at Finger Lakes.
“She’s a filly that really liked the track last year,” Englehart said of her local success in 2017.
◗ John Davila Jr. has the mount.
