FIFTH RACE

-

LONG EYELASHES came up short at the end of her career debut after taking some money, but she was likely best that day after failing to break sharply from the gate to wind up outrun early and then making a long, wide run all through the turn and stretch; 56 Beyer she earned for that effort is the top dirt figure in this field by several lengths. CELTIC SERENADE finished a distant 2nd in her only sprint try over fast dirt so far this year; still prefer her going shorter, though she does have to improve to win this. TEQUILA SUNDAY too slow to have a lot of confidence in after 12 tries but she can race on late for a piece after catching slop and then trying turf again in her last two starts.

SIXTH RACE

TALE OF E DUBAI back quickly after returning from his layoff on turf last Saturday, but he is a much better dirt horse and he was in good form at the end of last year for this trainer; tough post with plenty of other speed to his outside, but he is at the right level and he doesn’t have to be right on the lead to be effective. HEY JABBER JAW dropped in class and buried a field of $40k claimers right on the front end when last seen back in April, but it is hard to have confidence that he will run that race here after going to the sidelines off the claim and now returning for half the price; well-drawn and tough to beat if he shows up with anything close to his good race. MISSION COMMAND never really panned out after a promising start for Rudy, but do like him better as a closing sprinter on dirt, and he should have something to run at as he drops in class for this.

SEVENTH RACE

MY VICTORIA ROSE made two starts on dirt over the winter and while she didn’t do much running when stretched to a mile behind the talented Split Time when last seen, her debut was actually an okay effort while racing greenly in some traffic with her rider just holding her together late; returns on turf enough pedigree to be effective as her dam was a good turf/synth horse in her career, and Girolamo is fine with his grass runners. LOVELY LA LA and CHICLET’S DREAM go as separate interests for Chad Brown and they both seem likely to improve here off of their respective layoffs. LOVELY LA LA debuted in a fast-paced sprint on dirt back in April and raced on gamely late after being forced to take an early seat; dam posted her lone win on grass and is a sister to the Multiple graded stakeswinning turf horse J’ray. CHICLET’S DREAM also has a nice pedigree for turf and she ran well in her lone start on the surface as a 2yo; starts back going a bit shorter but her dam was a very good turf sprinter in her day, and she went 3 for 6 over seven furlongs on Belmont turf.

EIGHTH RACE

TOP OF THE PAGE made his NY debut for a lower tag but he ran well in that spot and may have won that race if not for being pushed to the inside by the eventual winner in the stretch; moves up off the Gullo re-claim, and he ran well for this trainer in Florida, including a win while overcoming an ordinary pace on March 4th. PROPHET’S CAT doesn’t sport a winning profile at 4 for 65, but he tends to show up while mostly being kept to tougher spots; posted a big upset when last in for the price and he has since held his form in allowance company. BATTLE MIDWAY has lost his good form since starting back from a short layoff but he can be dangerous here off the claim for Rudy; projects to have some pace to close into in this spot. DOGTOWN capable of a race that would make him very tough in this spot but he’s hard to trust after being pulled up off the layoff, and there is plenty of other speed for him to contend with here. GOT EVEN another with the back races to be a strong contender as nd he makes his NY debut, but he is another speed in a field that is not lacking for much of same.

NINTH RACE

PIQUET has made two starts in her career over this seven-furlong trip on the Widener course: a new top figure when rallying from last off the layoff, and a no-chance trip when buried in stretch traffic last October; good spot here if she can build upon that good effort off the layoff. DOODER prevailed in a race that didn’t come back fast in her 2yo debut at Saratoga, then took a shot to no avail in the Grade 1 Natalma at Woodbine before hitting the sidelines; plenty of room to improve for a top trainer, and this is not the strongest 1x field in the world. WAY SMART posted her lone career win over course and distance in that race where PIQUET was caught in traffic, but she went on to earn improved figures in her first two starts with other winners; no excuse when settling for 2nd as the favorite to the much-improved War Canoe off the layoff.

TENTH RACE

LEMON BLITZ bombed as the favorite in an off-theturfer last time, but that is not the race to judge him off as he ran a very good race when closing ground into a rated pace from last behind the much-improved Catch a Cab (returned to defeat allowance rivals in his next two starts with Beyers of 82 and 90) when last on turf; needs a trip over this distance on the inner.
