BEST BET: RACE 6, SANITY

FIRST RACE

BEAU’S BEAUTY faded to third after pressing the pace for the second straight time vs. OS/$40K maidens July 20. This B-level maiden special is easier, and the 4yo could break through in her third race after an extended layoff. JENNY’S VICTORY came up empty July 20, but is eligible to wake up in her third start if she runs to one of her better works. HUSH BUFFY, a half-sister to stakes winner Jenna’s Wabbit, is adding Lasix off a distant fifth in her opener.

SECOND RACE

CORKY’S THE NAME cut loose on a clear lead along the rail before tiring to fifth over a track that favored outside/closers in his second try off the bench July 15. CANADA WISE DON lacked room before finishing fifth in a longer sprint at this level the other day. LOWI VENE also ran against the bias when he was a fading sixth behind the top pick in his latest.

THIRD RACE

TAKE ANOTHER SHOT rallied wide for third, over a turf course that aided speed, when dropping from maiden special company to $20K second-time out July 20. CANDYCREET also ran against the aforementioned bias that day when second after saving ground. With blinkers on, he shouldn’t be worse than second as the chalk. APATOW is jumping up off a narrow loss and an $8K claim, while going back to the grass. Toss ATLANTIC CROSSING in the super.

FOURTH RACE

TRUE AMBITION broke a bit slowly before closing from off slow splits for second in her muchimproved July 22 outing vs. $12.5K maidens. She’s changing bug riders to the capable Kimura, after working five-eighths in 1:02 on the training track. DONTDROPURCROP placed in three of her last four starts, after showing speed on each occasion. Contreras picks up the mount and is 2 for 4 at the meet for trainer John Ross. COURT TIME missed the break before making up some ground from the last in her improved second race. Firsttimer CAN’T CRUSH THIS is a half-sister to G1 winner Jambalaya.

FIFTH RACE

NOTICE ME has worked nicely for a hot barn which has done well with offspring of Court Vision, most notably Mr Havercamp and Tallboy Tuesday. The $50K yearling purchase is a halfsister to the speedy Mel’s Ring. SILENT MEMORIES is by top juvenile sire Silent Name, and her dam produced a pair of 2yo debut winners. She’s commencing her career with blinkers and Lasix. MAHONE BAY folded in the final sixteenth after leading the way in her five-furlong opener. Use her underneath in the exotics, along with PEACE CONTROL.

SIXTH RACE

SANITY was a distant fourth vs. males last time after the same race for the gals failed to fill. The closer has a ton of speed to chase in this optional starter, and she has lots of room in which to maneuver with the rail in lane 2. COBRA SOPHIE had a troubled trip last time in a seven-furlong N1X. She was previously victorious in NW3 OS allowance/$40K company. VEAISHA got away slowly before racing wide en route to a runner-up placing in her latest on the Tapeta.

SEVENTH RACE

AFLEET CONNECTION is halving in price to meet $10K NW2 stock off a victory over $20K maidens, from which the third-place finisher exited to graduate for $12.5K. This prominent trainer/rider

combo scored thrice last Sunday. KHAWLAH saved ground throughout when third on the stretchout from seven-eighths to a route July 18. Her trainer has solid stats with turnbacks. PENNY A POINT closed four-wide to topple $10K maidens a month ago. LADY WITH CLASS is another recent maiden breaker.

EIGHTH RACE

MUST BE DREAMING lost all chance when she began slowly in a June 10 turf experiment. The full-sister to Canadian champion Are You Kidding Me has since worked well, and could make all the running in this event, which doesn’t contain much other speed. COUSIN CLAIRE opened up at 3-5 when this race was originally scheduled on Monday, but the latter portion of that card was scrapped due to inclement weather. She rallied for third in both of her outings at the meet, most recently behind Way to Versailles, who came back to take the G2 Royal North. ANITA PARTNER wasn’t an impact player against tougher thirdlevel optional-claiming opposition at Belmont, but could make some noise against this group.

NINTH RACE

DAVKA prevailed in a front-end battle before fading along the inside over a track that favored outside/closers in a recent $40K conditioned route. Turning back to a sprint in this $20K NW2 tilt should enable him to get back on track. HEY HOWIE closed from off fast fractions to finish a lapped-on second in his debut outside the maiden ranks at this level July 14. WHERE’S THE GOLD took the long way home from the back of the pack for second when favored on the drop to $10K July 22. Consider him for the bottom of vertical bets, along with LOUISIANA PURCHASE.

TENTH RACE

STARINTHEMAKING stalled from a stalking position at the top of the stretch before coming back on for fourth when returning from an 11-month layoff July 22. He figures to move forward with that tightener under his girth. COURT BATTLE is dropping to a new low, a spot in which he could make most or all of the running under Da Silva, who broke his maiden. SOUTHERN GREATNESS finished up the track among three next-out winners in the same $20K event from which COURT BATTLE is exiting. Use DIAMONDS AND ROSES in the gimmicks.
