BEST BET: RACE 3, STARSHIP WILDCAT

-

FIRST RACE

FALLEN LEAF freshened since disappointing try nearly two months earlier, switches to more experienced pilot and strictly the one to catch to kick off the final week of the meet. CORDELE tripped out perfectly while earning high marks for recent turf sprint tally vs. virtually the same kind, just a matter of whether she can repeat that type of effort today. SUM ROAR had best chances compromised when off slowly last time doing well for finish third behind Cordele. in the thick for at least a minor share with cleaner beginning.

SECOND RACE

With 24 the highest Beyer registered by any of the experienced members of this field, it might be wise to look at one of the new faces and giving GRAN BONITA CHICA for barn which has had good success placing new faces. Work tab just average although she did show big speed from the gate earlier this summer. GRAN BELLEZA adds blinkers after showing speed, fading late debuting vs. a notch better for same barn as the preferred choice. Expecting improvement with a race under belt and new equipment. MADELYN’S DANCER adds Lasix after showing speed of her own in last pair.

THIRD RACE

STARSHIP WILDCAT, the day’s best, back to level at which he proved an easy winner two back, need only show up with his “A” game to take another. CITY ROC hard to fault in his present form but stepping up against much better today. MONDAY PIRATE returned locally with a big effort two weeks earlier, figures forwardly throughout once again.

FOURTH RACE

WAR VALUE catches another short field returning locally off somewhat disappointing showing against a notch better in N Y Should not look back with this group. DENVER comes off her best yet returning from an 11 month hiatus and has a lot of upside stretching out off that effort. BEECHWOOD freshened some after wanting no part of the wet track last time when disappointing despite the addition of blinkers. Must be encouraged by the fact Zayas opts to give this mare one more chance.

FIFTH RACE

TROPICAL COGNAC returns to his preferred surface, gets shaky nod with the right trip in wide open maiden selling affair. TOUPHA handled slop well in her most recent try but effective on turf as well and obviously in good form at the present time. NOT QUITE READY has already been entered and scratched on three previous occasions. Super bred for the going by More Than Ready out of a Danehill mare but a bit of a question debuting for this tag considering his $150K purchase price.

SIXTH RACE

PUERTORICAN STYLE totally overmatched in N Y in June, wasted little time shipping back to south Florida and aggressively spotted for his return while getting blinkers added to boot. Work resume’ an interesting one that includes recent blow out on grass. Might be ready for winning try off the bench at this level. BLUEGRASS ENVY turns back to six furlongs off series of longer outings, having best chances compromised in last pair by slow starts. Expecting big improvement if able to leave cleanly from the rail. MASTER RORY steps up after earning career best Beyer Fig outlasting weaker N2L opposition although interesting Jaramillo opts for Pokerist off average N2L win of his own.

SEVENTH RACE

BOGULATOR finally escaped maiden ranks in his 18th try but did so impressive getting back on

grass last month and fast enough to win right back against N2L company if able to repeat the performance. If not, PROSPECTIVELY could prove the best option returning to turf and having already posted a win and a second at this level on turf earlier in the meet. KARENINA in new hands since finish a couple of lengths behind Prospectively in their previous meeting when dropped into this spot for the first time on 8/16.

EIGHTH RACE

Perhaps the most intriguing race of the day considering the new faces launching their careers in this MSW dash. BODEBABE has turned in a steady series of sharp works locally dating back to early July including 5/8’s on 9/8 in which he covered the final 3/8’s in :35 and was second best on a tab that included multiple GS winner Curlin’s Approval. Faces some well bred opposition led by MANTARAY ISLAND, a $1.4 million purchase by Bernardini and a half to G3 winner and G1 placed Ocho Ocho Ocho. BLACK PEPPER is a half to a couple of SW himself and a bit of a disappointment to launch his career here last winter. Returns a gelding and off a series of decent works. Expecting good things off the bench. Somethinstappin a $400K yearling purchase who finally makes the races late in his 4yo campaign, not the best of signs. By Tapit out of a mare who won 18 races and over $1.1 million in his career and a half to Something Awesome, winner of the G2 Charlestown Classic at the age of 7 earlier this year.

NINTH RACE

STARSHIP TRIBBLES holding his form well of late on turf and dirt and knocking on the door with this kind. Shaky call with a trip. COWGIRL TOUGH a six time winner who has defeated better in the past but obviously somewhat of a question having changed barns and off the five month hiatus. Big danger if ready for best off the bench. ONE DIRECTION SONG beat state breds last time and continues to train well on the dirt for step up to tough open company. Must respect at his best.

TENTH RACE

MADDY’S LAST DANCE dueled from state to finish with ultimate winner Steady Earner at first asking despite a bit of a sluggish start. Should benefit from the experience. Gets slight edge over first timer R MERCEDES BOY who has shown promise in the a.m. in a steady string of works dating back to early August. Strictly the one to fear. VEGAS

TYCOON adds blinkers, drops for team Repole/ Pletcher, hard to leave out of the equation.
