BEST BET: RACE 6, EDISTO ISLAND

FIRST RACE

DAYMARE has worked well for the DePaulo barn. The daughter of 17% 2yo debut sire Old Forester is out of a stakes-placed mare, who dropped the speedy Nashville Knight ($200K). BLACK BESS has also impressed in the mornings. The daughter of 11% 2yo debut sire Giant Gizmo is out of a fullsister to Canadian champion sprinter Blonde Executive. NEVER SOBER worked thrice from the gate in September. She’s a full-sister to Vice Regent Stakes winner Silent Poet.

SECOND RACE

FLAT OUT VIXEN rallied inside to lose by a whisker in a recent $32K tilt going seven panels. She’s switching to a distance that she’s bred to handle in this mile and a sixteenth route for $40K maidens, with Da Silva taking over from the suspended Wilson. QUEEN ANDHER COURT landed on the edges in each of her last two Tapeta excursions traveling seven-eighths. She’s tagged for the first time in her first venture around two turns, and is bred to be a miler. KEEP YOUR SILENCE raced wide throughout when fifth in her seven-furlong opener Sept. 19.

THIRD RACE

FERNANDO THE BULL was beaten in double digits twice, but he has several wake-up angles going for him here, most notably a significant drop in class to the lower maiden ranks, and first-time Lasix.

WONNESTRUT nearly got the job done at 79-1 in his penultimate start, but then bounced when fifth in a subsequent $10K contest. DANCING WITH ZORRO is changing surfaces to his preferred Tapeta, and could round out the top three. The runner-up from his last race returned to wire $25K maidens with a 78 Beyer.

FOURTH RACE

PURE PURITY is plunging in value off a 12-length loss in an N1X turf route in her debut for McKnight, who has excellent numbers second-time off the claim. Her stablemate, BREWS TOONIE TOSS, is moving back out to her preferred distance of threequarters after she was a beaten favorite in a pair

of five-furlong sprints. Leading trainer McKnight won an incredible five races last Wednesday. MISS

MANDATE is dropping off a 32-1 wake-up score in her first main track start of the year vs. $12.5K distaffers. Toss QUIDI VIDI in the super.

FIFTH RACE

ENCHANTED TALE drifted out in the stretch during a decisive front-running win over $20K conditioned stock a month ago. She can run back at the same level because she’s a 3yo, and looks invincible as long as she fires one of her better shots. GIOVANNA PONTI broke a bit slowly before closing to beat $20K NW2 rivals by daylight under Moran Aug. 31. TOMATO BISQUE got the win by DQ after she was herded wide in late stretch in a sevenfurlong tilt for $20K NW2 types two weeks ago. Use MIZZONA in the tri and super.

SIXTH RACE

EDISTO ISLAND wasn’t at her best going seven furlongs in her latest. She’s done her optimum running over middle distances, and should be dangerous racing up front here in her second start off a $16K claim. This jockey/trainer combo is 1 for 2 at the meet. LILLY’S GOLDIE failed to fire against much tougher $32K claimers in a seven-furlong turf sprint Sept. 14. Give her another chance in this $25K route, with Da Silva replacing the suspended Wilson. WHISPERING SPEAKER is also getting some class relief, and is eligible to get back on track in her second start after a summer break.

SEVENTH RACE

SECOND STREET is dropping a notch off a sharp score vs. $32K foes, during which he tracked a fast pace from a four-wide position before going in for the kill. OAKTON hasn’t found the mark since 2016, but he exhibited signs of life in his last few, and could make an impact with Hernandez aboard. FORESTER’S DESTINY has worked a bullet halfmile since ending up third behind the top pick after saving ground Sept. 8. The other McKnight, MALIBU WOOD, figures to be a speed threat.

EIGHTH RACE

FOXY B defeated two next-out winners when second against $10K maidens on the grass Aug. 17. He could mow down all the speed in this fivefurlong dash for $8K stock. Longtime maiden JAIL TIME placed in three of his four outings at this stand. He possesses versatile speed, and shouldn’t be worse than second. KUCHEROV could hang on a share after dueling up front. Use I’SE DUBAI in the lower rungs of the exotics.
