Hoosier Park stakes analysis

Race 7 - $137,000 Crossroads of America

Logic will have many handicappers running to (7) SEVIYORUM as she has kept some good company and been able to take home good checks. That said, at some point you have to give up on a filly with just 1 win in 13 starts this year. (1) HEY BLONDIE is risky with breaks in two of her last four starts, but she’s also as fast as any of these and will offer a reasonable price. I’m willing to try her at odds over 3-1. Others worth consideration are (5) CUSTOM CANTAB, the best sophomore trotting filly in Indiana, and (2) LIVE LAUGH LOVE, a solid performer all year.

Race 9 - $113,000 USS Indianapolis Memorial

You may want to consider that trainer Ron Burke sends out six of the 10 starters in this race including likely heavy favorite (6) YOU ARE MY CANDY GIRL. While her sixth-place finish in the Breeders Crown doesn’t look great on paper, she did duel every step of that mile with divisional leader Kissin in The Sand. When You are my candy girl is left alone on the lead she is virtually unbeatable and this seems like a spot where that will happen. (3) BARON REMY has been very competitive when stepping out on the Grand Circuit and seems like the main danger.

Race 10 - $256,000 Carl Erskine

(9) MET’S HALL has been the equivalent of an ATM card for his connections. He shows up consistently and always brings home a big wad of cash. With Tactical Landing and Six Pack on the sidelines this week, there is no reason to think Met’s Hall won’t head down the road. (2) MISSION ACCEPTED has found new life in the fall after a summer slump. This will be a good test for him and I’d consider taking a shot at around 6-1. (5) HELPISONTHEWAY is another riding a winning streak. He has been able to step up at times. (6) FIFTYDALLARBILL should be comfortable against this field and is worth using on multi-race tickets.

Race 11 - $190,000 Monument Circle

Hoosier drew a nice field for this race with the first and second finishers in the Breeders Crown in attendance. I’m all-in here on (6) LATHER UP. While he performs valiantly on the smaller tracks, the switch to Hoosier should help tremendously and there is no doubt in my mind that he is the fastest horse in the race. (2) ALWAYS A PRINCE owns this track and has put together 18 wins in 21 starts overall on the year. (4) GRAND TETON is capable of an upset with a smooth trip. (8) DORSODURO HANOVER was spectacular winning the Crown at Pocono, but the outside post and looming short price are unappealing.
