BOOK 1 HORSES TO WATCH AT KEENELAND NOVEMBER

Following are horses to watch during the Keeneland November breeding stock sale’s elite Book 1 portion, which is set for Nov. 5. Horses were selected based primarily on their pedigrees and the racing or commercial results of notable family members. The selections reflect catalog updates and sale outs through Oct. 29.

Hip 28, weanling filly by Tapit – Bubbler, by Distorted Humor. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.

This filly is a half-sister to champion and leading money-winner Arrogate, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic, Pegasus World Cup, and Dubai World Cup.

Hip 58, weanling filly by War Front – Drifting Cube, by Encosta de Lago. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.

A full brother to this filly sold for $1.9 million at this auction two years ago. Drifting Cube is a full sister to Group 2 winner Rubick, and it is the family of Group 1 winner and leading sire Redoute’s Choice, as well as Group 1 winners Hurricane Sky, Manhattan Rain, Platinum Scissors, Shoals, and Umatilla.

Hip 71, Galileo’s Song (Galileo – Song to Remember, by Storm Cat), in foal to Curlin. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.

Galileo’s Song, who is multiple Grade 3-placed, is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Magnificen­t Song and three other stakes performers. She also is a half-sister to the dams of Venezuelan champion The Mindfulang­el and Grade 2-placed Royal Obsession.

Hip 96, Inventive (Dixie Union – Original, by Storm Cat), in foal to Quality Road. Consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent.

This is the dam of Grade 1 winner Klimt and Grade 3-placed West Coast Chick. She is consigned carrying a full sibling to Klimt, by a stallion who has climbed into America’s upper echelon.

Hip 99, Jemima’s Pearl (Distorted Humor – Jemima, by Owington), in foal to Gun Runner. Consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent.

This multiple graded-placed stakes winner is by a successful broodmare sire, out of a multiple stakes-producing mare, and is offered carrying a foal from the first crop of Horse of the Year Gun Runner. Her weanling American Pharoah filly will precede her through the ring.

Hip 103, weanling filly by American Pharoah – Keertana, by Johar. Consigned by Denali Stud, agent.

This British-born filly is from the second crop of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Multiple graded stakes-winning millionair­e Keertana, herself a sevenfigur­e sale as a broodmare, is the dam of Grade 3 winner Ticonderog­a. She is a half-sister to graded winner and producer Snow Top Mountain and to graded winner Diversy Harbor.

Champion Lady Eli, who captivated the racing world by battling back from laminitis to return to high-end competitio­n, is offered carrying her first foal to the cover of a popular internatio­nal sire. Lady Eli is

a half-sister to graded stakes winner Bizzy Caroline, who was represente­d by a sevenfigur­e yearling at Keeneland September.

Hip 116A, weanling filly by Tapit – La Verdad, by Yes It’s True. Consigned by Eaton Sales, agent.

This is the second foal out of champion female sprinter La Verdad.

Hip 117, Layreebell­e (Tale of the Cat – Voodoo Lily, by Baldski), in foal to Into Mischief. Consigned by Select Sales, agent.

The 12-year-old Layreebell­e is the dam of graded stakes winners Kid Cruz and Spellbound and is offered in foal to leading sire Into Mischief. She is a half-sister to Grade 1-placed Magical Illusion, who produced Stage Magic, who produced Triple Crown winner Justify.

Hip 125, Little Swoon (You and I – Littlesuru­ki, by Swoon), in foal to Malibu Moon. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.

This is the dam of five-time graded stakes winner and millionair­e Melmich, as well as Grade 2 winner Iliad.

Hip 128, Lucas Street (Silver Deputy – Ruby Park, by Bold Ruckus), in foal to Arrogate. Consigned by Gainesway, agent for Bonne Chance Farm.

The dam of 2015 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner Wavell Avenue is carrying a foal from the first crop of leading money-winner Arrogate.

Hip 147, My Miss Sophia (Unbridled’s Song – Wildwood Flower, by Langfuhr), in foal to War Front. Consigned by Lane’s End, agent.

My Miss Sophia was a Grade 2 winner and second in the Kentucky Oaks on dirt, and was Grade 1 placed on turf. The versatile runner, carrying her second foal, is a halfsister to Grade 1 winner Materialit­y, from the immediate family of Grade 1 winners Afleet Express and Embellish the Lace.

Hip 161, Paquita Coqueta (Scat Daddy – Luna Piena, by Mon Pote Le Gitan), in foal to California Chrome. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, agent.

A champion in her native Chile and a stakes winner in the United States. Both late sire Scat Daddy and young stallion California Chrome are popular in North America and Chile.

Hip 173, weanling filly by American Pharoah – Refugee, by Unaccounte­d For. Consigned by Eaton Sales, agent.

Grade 2-placed Refugee is the dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Hoppertuni­ty, who has earned more than $3.5 million, along with multiple Grade 1 winner Executivep­rivilege and stakes-placed Profit. Refugee’s second dam is champion Davona Dale.

Hip 188, weanling filly by Curlin – Serena’s Cat, by Storm Cat. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales, agent.

Stakes winner Serena’s Cat is the dam of champion Honor Code, Grade 2 winner Noble Tune, stakes winner Declaratio­nofpeace, and stakes-placed Lady Peace. Serena’s Cat is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Vocalised, and her second dam is Hall of Fame racemare and blue hen Serena’s Song, dam of Group 1 winner Sophistica­t, Grade 2 winners Grand Reward and Harlington, Grade 3 winner Schramsber­g, and stakes winner Serene Melody. Serena’s Cat’s offspring have been sale successes; Serena’s Harmony sold for $3 million as a weanling at the 2014 Keeneland November sale, and Declaratio­nofpeace sold for $2.6 million as a weanling in 2015. Both are among the top prices in Keeneland November weanling history. Serena’s Cat was a $1.4 million weanling.

This year’s weanlings represent Uncle Mo’s strong book of mares garnered after his first-crop son Nyquist won the 2016 Kentucky Derby. Succeeding is from the female line of blue hens Better Than Honour and Blush With Pride, which was responsibl­e for the $2.4 million saletoppin­g colt at this year’s Keeneland September yearling sale and another colt sold for $1 million.

Hip 221, Tiffany’s Honour (Street Cry – Better Than Honour, by Deputy Minister), in foal to Medaglia d’Oro. Consigned by Lane’s End, agent.

Tiffany’s Honor is the dam of a $1.1 million colt sold at Keeneland September. An unraced daughter of Better Than Honour – herself out of Blush With Pride – she is a half-sister to champion Rags to Riches, Belmont winner Jazil, Breeders’ Cup winner Man of Iron, Grade 2 winner Casino Drive, and multiple stakes producer Teeming.

Hip 226, Treasure Trail (Pulpit – Vertigineu­x, by Kris S.), in foal to Uncle Mo. Consigned by Claiborne Farm, agent for Edward A. Cox Jr., dispersal.

Treasure Trail, the dam of Group 3 winner Long Island Sound, is a half-sister to champion Zenyatta, Grade 1 winner Balance, and stakes winner Where’s Bailey, dam of Grade 2 winner She’s Not Here. A solid number of horses from this family are on offer via the Cox dispersal. Treasure Trail’s War Front weanling, a full sister to Long Island Sound, will follow her through the ring. Earlier, Hip 220 is a Street Cry mare out of Treasure Trail, making her bred on the same cross as Zenyatta, carrying a foal from the first crop of Gun Runner.

Hip 231, Vasilika (Skipshot – La Belle Marquet, by Marquetry), consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.

Vasilika has risen from the claiming ranks to post seven consecutiv­e victories this year, including wins in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes and Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes.

Hip 232, weanling filly by Candy Ride – Violent Beauty, by Gone West. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales, agent.

This is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Violence. Her third dam is the champion Sky Beauty, with an extended family that includes champions Dayjur, Gold Beauty, and Quasar; Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Pleasant Home; and Grade 1 winners Maplejinsk­y, Pine Island, Point of Entry, and Tale of Ekati. A half-brother to this filly was the top weanling of Keeneland November Book 1 last year at $1 million.

Grade 1 winner is offered carrying her first foal.
