Welder streaks into Silver Goblin

Welder has established himself as the alpha male among sprinters this meet at Remington Park, and on Friday night he will be looking to win his fourth consecutive stakes race at the Oklahoma City track in the $70,000 Silver Goblin.

The Silver Goblin, at 6 1/2 furlongs, is for 3-year-olds and up bred in Oklahoma. Other points of interest on the card come in the third race, which features Remington Park Racing Club runner Take Charge Easy; and the sixth, which marks the debut of Never Easy, a 2-year-old son of Candy Ride and the multiple Grade 2-winning mare Wasted Tears.

Welder will be a strong favorite in the Silver Goblin, which drew a field of five. His rivals are stakes winners Perfect to Please, Rockport Kat, and Shannon C, and the multiple stakes-placed Mr. N.

◗ He is unbeaten at the meet, taking the $70,000 Remington Park Sprint for Oklahomabreds on Sept. 7; the $159,000 David M. Vance against open company Sept. 30; and the $130,000 Oklahoma Classics Sprint for statebreds on Oct. 19. Since his most recent start, he’s been pointed to the Silver Goblin, which he won last year at 4.

“We’ve just been sticking to his routine since his last race, galloping, jogging him, and we had a work at Will Rogers Downs [on Nov. 7] to just blow him out, and he breezed an easy five-eighths in 1:02 flat,” trainer Teri Luneack told publicity at Remington. “Just trying to keep him happy.”

◗ Welder was a $6,400 private purchase as a yearling, owner Clayton Rash told publicity. The horse has since won 14 races from 22 starts and earned $593,151. Rash, who owns a large welding business, purchased the horse’s yearling half-brother by Race Day for a sales-topping $30,000 during an August auction in Oklahoma City.
