Stolen Identity healthy, ready to show what he’s got

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Not much went right for Stolen Identity after his dazzling debut, but he could get back on track in Friday’s featured allowance sprint for Ontario-sired 2-yearolds.

Stolen Identity turned heads when winning a maiden race in front-running style by 8 1/4 lengths while geared down late here July 29. Over a speed-favoring track, his time for the 5 1/2 furlongs was a quick 1:05.10.

Stolen Identity subsequently missed some training due to illness, according to trainer Bill Tharrenos, who scratched him from the Aug. 29 Simcoe Stakes for graduates of local yearling sales. When Stolen Identity returned to action about three weeks later in the six-furlong Bull Page Stakes, he dueled for the lead before folding to finish ninth as the favorite.

“We were going towards the Simcoe, but he came up with a virus,” Tharrenos said. “We tried to rush him. We were hoping he would overcome the virus that he picked up, but he didn’t in time. We believed he was going to be okay for [the Bull Page]. We ended up running him, but he actually came back sick from that race.”

Tharrenos said things have gone smoothly with the flashy bay gelding since the Sept. 23 Bull Page.

“He’s had a break without being rushed,” Tharrenos said. “He only had one work going into the Bull Page, but he’s on target now. His blood’s good. His sinuses are good. We scoped him after the last couple of breezes. Everything seems great. I think he’s a good horse, but he’s got to come back and prove it.”

Five others entered the sixfurlong event, which goes as the third on a nine-race card.

Stolen Identity, by Old Forester Beyers: 27-66

◗ Ademar Santos, aboard for his first two starts, will ride him again. He won his first local stakes last Saturday aboard Ikerrin Road in the Grade 2 Kennedy Road.

Corduroy Road, by Souper Speedy Beyer: 72

◗ He put away another pace rival before drawing clear to land his Oct. 20 bow in an open maiden special over six furlongs.

◗ Sheena Ryan, who retains the mount, is 6 for 32 at the meet for Corduroy Road’s trainer, Robert Tiller.

Captain Handsome, by Silent Name Beyers: 50-67

◗ The other Tiller starter, he graduated at first asking from off the pace under Ryan, but subsequently ran up the track after lacking room along the inside on the turn in the Oct. 31 Frost King Stakes.

◗ Leading rider Eurico Da Silva takes over.

Krachenwagen, by Head Chopper Beyers: 63-61-65

◗ After capturing his debut, he was a slow-starting third in both the Frost King and an allowance last Saturday.
