How to play the Pick 5

- by Kenny Peck

Leg A – LRL Race 8:

SHANE’S JEWEL didn’t run badly in that stakes race last time, especially considering it was further than he wants to go. Back at six panels here he may well be the controlling speed (1).

Leg B – LRL Park Race 9:

PROPORTIONALITY ships in from Kentucky but she’s had past success over this strip. The inside post and early speed make her strategy pretty clear -- she’ll be looking to steal this, and given a clean break she figures tough (1).

Leg C – GG Race 2:

NIGHTIME OLYMPICS is down in price and back on the main track, a combination that has produced representative Beyers for him in the past. TIZ BUFF makes his third start off the layoff and moves to his preferred surface. LUCK LASTS is down in price and in class, emerging from open claimers. ARROM BEAR has been away a long time but the barn’s stats with absentees and with new faces gives him credibility. KRSTO SKYE is obviously dangerous at this reduced level (5).

Leg D – LRL Park Race 10:

Going deep in this leg, as successful singles would allow a wide spread in a couple of races, such as this wide-open maiden claimer. Using them all, with the hopes of one of these lightly-raced runners jumping up and taking a big step forward (9).

Leg E – GG Race 3:

ATTICISM has speed but can also rate, and that versatility should enable him to work out a trip regardless of the race flow. MAJESTIC JOURNEY should be well positioned to take advantage of a quick, contested pace up front (2).
