ANALYSIS

BEST BET: RACE 9, CYPRIANA

- MIKE WELSCH @DRFWelsch

FIRST RACE

MISS CLAUDIA flashed speed in debut washed from turf to dirt, now gets to try a surface she should handle being a full to 2 time grass winner Besame. ANOMALY finished 4th of a dozen when haltered by current connections last month, turns back to a sprint after flashing some real gas blowing out for this on dirt. SACRIFICE rallied for third in only previous sprint try on grass last summer at the Spa. Should come rolling on turn back to 5/8’s.

SECOND RACE

GRAN RED did not have the best of trips in his last pair after missing a length with this sane kind earlier in session. Has been a work horse all meet, might finally be ready to break through against N2L company with the right trip. INTERLAKEN a distant second behind red hot Mr Chaplin when dropped to this category for the first time last month. Not facing that kind today. RUMBAGO one of several speed types in the lineup along with Cactus Catch Me and Lumumba and could be a bit of a sleeper going turf to dirt.

THIRD RACE

LILLIE’S HEAT stays put off the claim and a strong showing in only her second career start. A beaten favorite two times running but third could be the charm with this group. SECRET O’LIFE has not had the best of luck in her last pair although another who has burnt plenty of chalk of late. TEQUILA SHEILA showed improvement on stretch to a mile when outrunning her odds in just her second career start. Another likely ready for best yet with two under the belt.

FOURTH RACE

FREE FLAYME goes turf to dirt, gets Lasix, showed some pretty good speed for this level working over main here last weekend. Might get brave if rider puts her right on the front end from outset. FAFA FOOEY strictly one to beat dropping for tag after being overmatched in well graded state bred MSW dash last time. A big of a hanging sort so far but maybe not with these. ELUSIVE RO second best returning to dirt off a couple of failed inner tries. Can’t ignore wheeling back with same kind.

FIFTH RACE

MADDY’S SALSA on the fringes on several occasions at this level but blew out nicely for today’s outing, might finally be ready to break through with the right trip. MAHVELOUS KITTEN one to beat dropping to this level for first time while making just second start since mid-July. COCKTAIL SKIRT continues to hold form nicely but never easy going from N2L to N3L level as she does off recent win for new connections off the claim.

SIXTH RACE

DIZZY GILLESPIE never better and likely to maintain that same form for new connections if recent a.m. trials any indication. Gets call right back against a bit tougher than he’s easily handled in last pair. TO DARE easily beat this same kind a couple of times last summer and fall, indicated he’s ready to return to that form in recent seven furlongs try. CHARLIE THE GREEK another in great form at the present time although was no match for top one in their previous encounter several months earlier.

SEVENTH RACE

MACHO BLUE took huge step forward off the claim when switched to grass, hard not to take right back despite the class hike. SHANGHAI NOON returned from a year’s vacation with an even showing following unlucky start, could offer some value if moving forward as expected second off the layoff. THORPE D’ORO back to his favorite surface, can’t leave out off last couple on turf at the N2L level.

EIGHTH RACE

MO GEE gets tepid nod in another wide open turf test breaking from rail off a couple of decent showings now getting some class relief dropping in against conditioned claimers for first time today. VICTOR LOUNGE comes off a strong effort despite wide trip first time off the Maker claim, looked good working for this on 2/16. MR. DISCRETIONARY finished first against same kind on 1/31 only to lose decision via stewards inquiry. Have to like chances right back with a repeat performance.

NINTH RACE

CYPRIANA a very talented sort who had her issues last season but obviously runs well fresh and too good for these if keeping a straight course in the main event. LONGSTOCKING had little chance when hung wide trying a mile second off the layoff, should come running best of all at the end. SWORN SILENCE has been away a long time after dull showing as odds on choice in Ky. finale but has enough back class to merit a look making local bow in relatively weak N1X spot.

TENTH RACE

SASSY LASSY got hung out to dry after breaking slow from outside gate in debut. Switches to turf, showing enough speed in a.m. to perhaps steal this one if away winging from the fence. MUSKOKA SUZIE shortens up to a sprint after somewhat eventful trip around two turns in local bow. CASSINI’S PLUNGE another with some early foot who figures forward factor throughout in finale.
