SEVENTH RACE

-

BLUEGRASS PARKWAY managed to post a careerbest Beyer in defeat last time despite traffic trouble and an off-the-pace trip behind some mild early fractions; eligible to make the last run in the Columbia Stakes given a clean trip and average early splits. ROYAL URN stalked the pace and faded only late in the Dania Beach, a race which set up well for the closers; figures prominently from the start once again. FOREVER MO makes his stakes debut in search of his third straight win and he may be good enough in his current form; Beyers need a bump but he wasn’t all out in either of those last two and he could have room to improve further.

EIGHTH RACE

BOURBON RESOLUTION should fall into an ideal stalking trip here, and while he did benefit from such a situation in his latest the projected pace scenario today does seem to be in his favor; meets better but a quick, contested pace does seem likely and that would certainly move him up in terms of Beyers. LONGDEN is another who stands to benefit from a rapid pace; the figure he posted over this strip two back gives him credibility. FLAMEAWAY has a class edge and is clearly the one to beat but he likes to be up close early on and the rail draw may force his hand; also likely to be overbet.

NINTH RACE

ONTHEMOONAGAIN hasn’t won in the U. S. but she also hasn’t done much wrong in three starts, with her only off-the-board finish in those starts coming when she had a legitimate pace excuse; trainer Chad Brown may hold the aces with this runner and ML favorite RYMSKA, who is coming off a loss as a heavy favorite. The latter can be expected to take a step forward off that race, which was won in gate-to-wire fashion, with the aid of some slow early splits. HAWKSMOOR is usually on or near the lead but she rated effectively to score in the Endeavour, and with that type of versatility she’s that much tougher; may revert to front-running tactics today, as she may be the main speed from her inside post in the Hillsborough.

TENTH RACE

WINTER SUNSET powered clear in the late stages with a solid late run despite racing off a slow opening quarter and half mile, defeating 2/5 favorite ELSA along the way; should be able to use her inside post and tactical speed to her best advantage once again in this Florida Oaks, which is a little light on speed. LA FEVE didn’t break well from the rail in her U. S. debut in the Sweetest Chant but she figures to be more involved in the early stages today given a clean getaway. STELLAR AGENT makes her seasonal debut after running 3rd in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly Turf when last seen; training well enough toward this return, and she could be the one to watch for in the lane.

ELEVENTH RACE

WELL DEFINED outran a couple of other speeds in the opening stages to secure the early advantage in the Sam F. Davis and he was never threatened thereafter, a solid score against a decent field of early-season Kentucky Derby hopefuls; he figures to be the one to catch once again in the Tampa Bay Derby and he could be quick enough to establish a clear lead once again, especially with main pace foe ZENDEN stuck all the way on the outside. ADMIRE is all the way on the inside, and he could find himself in position to get first run on the likely pacesetter; will be tough if those Beyers continue to rise with each start. WIN WIN WIN has to be respected off that 99 figure he posted in victory in the Pasco but this is his first try around two turns and that Beyer will draw some money; certainly capable but perhaps not the right value play if at or below his 5/2 Morning Line price.

TWELFTH RACE

TRUMPI regressed some in that last run but a traffic-troubled trip cost him, as he was forced to steady; prior Beyer makes him a solid contender against this group, as he’ll be a handful if able to run back to that one. NEXT MONDAY was no threat in his return from the layoff but he was in against better and he was also against the race flow as a closer, as the speeds held the edge; expecting an improved effort given some pace help. GOLD STING fits well based on his best Woodbine figures; picks up leading rider Samy Camacho. 11225 Race Track Road, Tampa, FL 33626 (813) 855-4401
