BEST BET: RACE 7, GATO GUAPO

FIRST RACE

That was a nice confidence boost for ZAPPED last out when winning at the chalk by over 4 lengths. Versatile style is a big plus and he gets an extra furlong to work with today. No more layoffs for this 7YO and that is a good thing. This horse just likes to win. PUT YOUR PANTS ON is a beaten favorite in two straight. He has won 7 times on this dirt and that has to count for something. He does like this distance. Grinding style so the rail draw isn’t so bad. COMPLETE CIRCLE is in good form. New barn doesn’t claim many and are 1 for 11 when doing so. We like the jock switch to Lindsay. Off the pace runner gets OK race flow and might be a decent price.

SECOND RACE

NEVADAN won when last seen on this sod four back. His most recent was better so now is a good time to return him to the grass. The Eikleberry barn is 20% on the green. This gelding looks to be quickest and with a good break should find the front end where an early breather awaits. This horse has worked twice since his most recent and we probably like that best. TYLER’S TEK ran OK previously and now gets a class break. This gelding has won twice on this sod. We like how he ran well two back when inside. Recent work was sharp.

PRIVATE JOKE switches things up today and tries the turf for the first time in a while. Current form is OK and he has won twice on the sod. What if this guy is just better around two turns? He tried a flat mile last out and beat half the field home at almost 14-1. A good price today we would think.

THIRD RACE

This is a good spot for a first time starter as we don’t love the ones that have already started. KASEYS CALLIN is by a 4% debut sire. Her dam won her only start and earned $6,120. Both sibs won and both beat winners. Works are perfectly spaced and this filly debuts with Lasix. We like that she is a 4YO. MADE FOR MORE is by a 12% debut sire. Her dam went 12-4-2-3 and banked 189K. Of three sibs to race, 2 won with the best a multiple winner of 86K (Ready Express by More Than

Ready). The leading rider gets a leg up for a barn that is 1 for 12 with debut runners. VIVACITAS is the fresh face from Woodbine and we don’t get too many shippers from there. Local works are well spaced. If this filly has any speed then Stevens is a good fit.

FOURTH RACE

BORUSSIA has a nice even running style and that bodes well for today’s stretch-out. Her sire went 3-2-1-0 when routing and earned 575K. Lone sib is a multiple winner (0 for 1 routing). Maybe this filly shows some speed in this spot. APRIL’S LADY DI is a tad better of late and it came at today’s distance. Second time with Scott Stevens can only help. This mare does have some tactical speed. The Chad Story barn is 16% with their routers. SUPAH SISTA just ran better. Can she put good races together though? Lone mile tries 3 and 5 back weren’t very good. Still, she is better of late and does have some speed.

FIFTH RACE

VEILED HEAT is 3 for 3 on this sod and goes for the leading barn. First call rider gets a leg up and Arrieta is 43% for Diodoro. Works are well spaced and notice that Feb 20 work that was 2nd best of 40. This mare is bred to like the grass with a 316 Tomlinson. PEACH TIME is feeling great. She loses Arrieta to our top pick but that was to be expected. Velazquez is riding well and this mare has won five times on this turf. The Bratcher barn is a very nice 36% with their repeating winners. Race flow is quite good for an off the pace trip. TORENO is a Santa Anita shipper and since they aren’t racing there due to surface woes it makes sense that this filly ends up here. Sire gets 8% debut turf winners. Her dam never tried the grass. Lone sib to try the green missed the board in only try. It is nice to see a local work. This filly should show some speed.

SIXTH RACE

FUSAICHI SAMURAI just won at today’s distance and is now 8-2-1-2 in elongated sprints. We love his versatile style. He draws well for this. When Hebert gets a leg up from this barn, he wins at 33%. ANTARES DREAM is in good form. He loves this distance at 10-3-2-3. His tactical speed comes in handy today. This gelding is always a good price.

SUM CANDY switches barns but keeps Arrieta even though this gelding’s last few with said jockey up were only OK. We think there is a reason for that. New barn is 0 for 1 off the claim so it isn’t that. Recent figs are OK. An early tote check might lend further clues.

SEVENTH RACE

GATO GUAPO gets back to the dirt and that might be his better surface right now (4-2-1-0). This gelding ran a Beyer top only three back and it came on this dirt. The leading rider gets a leg up. Main pace foe is drawn outside and the first turn comes up quick going a flat mile. LIBERTARIAN showed speed last out but can stalk. His recent work was a bullet. Corbett is 33% for this barn and they show a flat bet profit. FREEDOM HILL looks better if you toss that SoCal try two back. It was only 3 back that this gelding got an 85 Beyer on this dirt going this distance. Beaten favorite angle applies. If our top 2 heat up the early pace, then this gelding might trip out best.

EIGHTH RACE

YANKEE PRIDE is feeling great so now is a good time to step her up in class. She has speed but will have to stalk today as others are quicker. She is simply much better on the grass. We like how she puts four races together. This barn often uses Canchari and he knows this mare well. CHARMING JILLY B has missed the exacta on this sod only once in five starts. We like that connections find a spot where this filly can’t be claimed. Velazquez is 3 for 6 when riding for team Nance. Is this filly a new turf horse? SILKEN SPY comes in fresh and tries the local lawn for the first time. There is some other speed in here but we would think that the front end is hers if Corbett sends. Recent works are well spaced.
