HORSES TO WATCH AT FASIG-TIPTON SARATOGA

Following are horses to watch during the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale on Aug. 5 and 6. Horses were selected based primarily on their pedigrees and the racing or commercial results of notable family members. The selections reflect catalog updates and sale outs through July 18.

Hip 24, Silver Strand, filly by Frosted – India, by Hennessy. Consigned by Lane’s End, agent.

This is the first crop for multiple Grade 1 winner Frosted, a Tapit horse who tied for the highest price by a first-crop sire at the Fasig-Tipton July sale. Multiple graded stakes winner India is the dam of Japanese Group 1 winner Mozu Ascot and stakes winner Kareena. Grade 1 winner and Canadian champion Rahy’s Attorney appears on the catalog page, as do Grade 1 winners Angela Renee and To Honor and Serve.

Hip 39, filly by Medaglia d’Oro – Khancord Kid, by Lemon Drop Kid. Consigned by Sequel New York, agent for Chester and Mary Broman.

Medaglia d’Oro recorded three sevenfigur­e yearlings in one night to dominate this auction last year. This filly is a full sister to Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner Bar of Gold and is from the extended family of champion Shared Belief.

Hip 40, colt by Pioneerof the Nile – Kindle, by Indian Charlie. Consigned by Ballysax Bloodstock, agent for HnR Nothaft Horse Racing LLC.

Pioneerof the Nile died earlier this year, and supply-and-demand dynamics will begin to come into play with his final crops. Graded-placed stakes winner Kindle was represente­d by an American Pharoah colt, bred on the same cross as this yearling, who sold for $2.2 million at Keeneland September last year.

Hip 43, filly by Malibu Moon – Lady Melesi, by Colonial Affair. Consigned by Select Sales, agent for Machmer Hall.

Stakes winner Lady Melesi is the dam of Grade 3 winner English Affair, Grade 2-placed stakes winner Seruni, stakes winner Roman Emperor, and two other graded stakes-placed runners. This is the extended family of champion Easy Goer.

Hip 54, filly by Tapit – Magical Belle, by Unbridled’s Song. Consigned by Eaton Sales, agent.

Magical Belle is out of Grade 2 winner Queenie Belle, making her a full sister to Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Unrivaled Belle. Unrivaled Belle is the dam of twotime Eclipse Award winner Unique Bella, also by perennial leading sire Tapit.

Hip 90, filly by Tapit – Promenade Girl, by Carson City. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.

One of several well-bred fillies in this catalog for perennial leading sire and commercial juggernaut Tapit. Multiple graded winner Promenade Girl has produced multiple Grade 1 winner Cavorting, stakes winner Moon Colony, and graded placed Thirstforl­ife. Hip 109, filly by American Pharoah – Seattle Smooth, by Quiet American. Consigned by Lane’s End, agent.

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah recorded nine million-dollar sales from his first crop and has emerged as one of this year’s leading freshman sires early on. Grade 1-winning millionair­e Seattle Smooth has already produced stakesplac­ed Gunfire.

Hip 123, filly by War Front – Storm Dixie, by Catienus. Consigned by Paramount Sales, agent.

Princess of Sylmar, a half-sister to this filly, won the Kentucky Oaks and three other Grade 1 races. Stakes-placed Storm Dixie also produced stakes-placed Biblical.

By consistent classic sire Curlin, this is the first foal out of Grade 1 winner Taris, herself a half- or full sister to two other stakes winners.

Hip 140, filly by Into Mischief – Theycallme­ladyluck, by Dixie Union. Consigned by Baccari Bloodstock, agent.

Stakes-placed Theycallme­ladyluck, out of Grade 3 winner Vegas Prospector, is the dam of Grade 1 winner Salty.

Hip 143, Peachtree Road, filly by Quality Road – Tortuga Lady, by Thunder Gulch. Consigned by Bridie Harrison, agent for Peter Blum Thoroughbr­eds.

Quality Road has emerged as a leading general sire, and his commercial popularity is expected to rise accordingl­y. Tortuga Lady, a full sister to classic-placed Invisible Ink, is the dam of Grade 2-placed stakes winners Princess Arabella and Dyna’s Lassie, along with stakes-placed Super Sky and Cairo Six. Princess Arabella, dam of stakes-placed Ulele, sold for $725,000 as a broodmare prospect,

Group-placed stakes winner Twirl is a full sister to Group 1 winners Misty For Me and Ballydoyle. Misty For Me is the dam of Group 1 winners Roly Poly and U S Navy Flag. This is the extended family of European champion Fasliyev, as well as Grade 1/Group 1 winners Desert Wine, Les Arcs, and Menifee.

Hip 150, filly by Medaglia d’Oro – Veracity, by Distorted Humor. Consigned by Indian Creek, agent.

This filly’s full sister sold for $1 million at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga last year to help fuel Medaglia d’Oro’s big night. Veracity, out of Grade 2 winner Yell, is a full sister to Cheery – the dam of Medaglia d’Oro’s multiple Grade 1 winner Elate. This active family also is represente­d on the track this year by recent Grade 2 Jim Dandy winner Tax and stakes winner Fashion Faux Pas. It is the extended family of Kentucky Derby winner Sea Hero and several other Grade 1 performers.

Hip 151, filly by American Pharoah – Visual Mind, by Kingmambo. Consigned by Brookdale Sales, agent.

Visual Mind, the dam of stakes-placed Mind Mapping, is out of stakes winner Visions of Clarity. Visions of Clarity produced Preakness Stakes winner War of Will, Group 1 winner Pathfork, stakes winner Tacticus, and multiple stakes producer Lotus Sutra. This is a branch of the family of the influentia­l broodmare Best in Show; appearing on this catalog page are champion Aldebaran and Grade 1/Group 1 winners Chimes of Freedom, Denon, Good Journey, and Spinning World.

Hip 174, colt by Curlin – America, by A.P. Indy. Consigned by Stone Farm, agent.

This is the first foal out of Grade 3

winner and multiple Grade 1-placed America, who is from another branch of Best in Show’s family tree. This colt’s fourth dam is Kentucky Oaks winner and blue hen Blush With Pride, whose foals include Better Than Honour, dam of a pair of Belmont Stakes winners among her several stakes horses. This also is the family of champions Malinowski, Peeping Fawn, and Xaar, along with Grade 1/Group 1 winners Senure and Thewayyoua­re.

Hip 178, filly by Uncle Mo – Artemis Agrotera, by Roman Ruler. Consigned by Sequel New York, agent for Chester and Mary Broman.

This is the second foal out of multiple Grade 1 winner Artemis Agrotera, whose first foal, a Tapit colt, fetched a sale-record $2 million at this year’s OBS March auction.

This is a full sister to Exaggerato­r, a multiple graded stakes-winning juvenile who went on to score a Grade 1 trio in the Preakness Stakes, Haskell Invitation­al, and Santa Anita Derby the following year. He also was second in the Kentucky Derby. Stakes-placed Dawn Raid is a half-sister to Canadian champion Embur’s Song, and Grade 1 winner Island Sand appears on the page.
