How to play

- By Kenny Peck

SATURDAY 8TH (TEST):

SERENGETI EMPRESS has speed and the rail, and she’s turned in a couple of very sharp works for this of late. BELLAFINA, a winner of six of nine career starts, has speed but can also rate; barn excels with horses moving from routes to sprints. TRENCHTOWN CAT would certainly benefit from a quick, contested pace up front. ROYAL CHARLOTTE gets the toughest Test of her career but she’s undefeated and she comes off a sharp win in the Victory Ride (4).

SATURDAY 9TH (WHITNEY):

THUNDER SNOW and MCKINZIE were a neck apart in the Met Mile and are logical horses to use in the Whitney, with the latter the 7/5 favorite on the Morning Line. But PRESERVATIONIST is streaking right now and could still be on the improve for Jimmy Jerkens, making his third start off the layoff and sporting solid works since his Suburban win. VINO ROSSO makes his first start since his game Gold Cup victory in March and could prove dangerous with a similar effort (4).

SATURDAY 10TH (DE LA ROSE):

CAPLA TEMPTRESS overcame a slow pace to win the Just A Kiss Stakes at Delaware Park last time, and though she was off the board in her prior pair she had excuses, with a lack of pace leaving her with too much to do in the Just A Game and a premature move costing her in the Distaff Turf Mile three back. GOT STORMY makes her first start since running 2nd in that same race and she’s the one to beat off that running line; she sports a couple of decent works for this return (2).

SUNDAY 5TH (WAYA):

Using them all in the Waya, an impossible race to plot thanks to a marathon distance and a complete lack of any semblance of pace. SANTA MONICA seems to hold an edge on paper but this will likely come down to jockey tactics, something that’s difficult to gauge in that none of the six entered has been on the lead in the early stages in any of their last 12 starts (6).

SUNDAY 9TH (SARATOGA DERBY):

HENLEY’S JOY was a game winner in the Belmont Derby, but less than a length back was SOCIAL PARANOIA. These two draw inside in the Saratoga Derby and both have the tactical speed to work out a trip. A THREAD OF BLUE has some speed of his own and could prove the one to catch. MOHAWK ships in for his U. S. debut off a win in Ireland for Aidan O’Brien (4).

SUNDAY 10TH (ADIRONDACK):

FRANK’S ROCKETTE was a sharp winner in her debut, drawing off nicely after making a run at the lead on the turn, and the resulting Beyer makes her easy to like in this Adirondack. MAGIC DANCE has posted even better figures in her two victories, a pair of impressive wins where she also showed a nice rating gear (2).

THE PLAY:

1, 2, 4, 5 / 4, 5, 6, 8 / 7, 8 / ALL / 1, 2, 3, 10 / 2, 8 = $307.20 Ticket
