How to play

- By Kenny Peck

LEG A (WO 7th):

TOURIGA wasn’t that far off today’s favorite, COMPETITIONOFIDEAS, in the Matchmaker at Monmouth, and she didn’t get much pace help in that one. The latter is clearly the one to beat on the strength of her figures. HOLY HELENA has some of the better Beyers in the field, and she also has tactical speed and an inside post. MAGNETIC CHARM makes her U. S. debut and may appreciate today’s added distance. STARSHIP JUBILEE has 12 career wins, four of them over this course, and she has license to make the last run with the right kind of trip (5).

LEG B (WO 9th):

SILENT POET may be the main speed in the Woodbine Mile, and he comes off the best Beyer of his career. GOT STORMY is obviously going to be a handful at a short price if she runs back to her last couple of efforts and figures. AWESOMETANK meets males but she was a solid 2nd behind Sistercharlie in her first start in the U. S., and while she needs to step it up in terms of Beyers to beat the favorite she certainly has upside (3).

LEG C (BEL 10th):

EAST was 2nd in the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies with a decent late run, and her solid late kick will make her tough to stave off here. SEEK AND DESTROY has won two of her last three starts, and she’s another who figures to benefit from a lively race flow today (2).

LEG D (WO 10th):

OLD PERSIAN ships into Woodbine off a solid effort in Germany and he has strong Timeform figures, which make him the one to beat in the Northern Dancer. He’s clearly the “A” play, and one to use on virtually all tickets, but for the purposes of this ticket I’ll use SIR SAHIB in equal strength, as that runner has room to take a big step forward given a quicker pace than he’s gotten in each of his last two starts (2).

LEG E (BEL 11th):

SOMETHING JOYFUL gets back to six panels and this does seem to be her best distance. MIKE’S GIRL has high speed but can also come from off the pace, and that versatility should give jockey Kendrick Carmouche some options. SHANGHAI BONNIE may be the one to catch as she stretches out to six furlongs on the turf for the first time. ANDRETTA does like to run 2nd but she should get ample pace to chase here, and she is at her best at this distance (4).

THE PLAY:

1, 2, 3, 5, 6 / 3, 5, 6 / 4, 8 / 1, 5 / 2, 4, 5, 7 = 240 Combinations ($120 Ticket)
