BEST BET: RACE 2, OMA LEE

FIRST RACE

BWANA GO has some speed and draws inside main pace foes. That was a sharp gate to wire win two back. What we like best is that this gelding won his only local start and got a Beyer top in the process. BLUE WINGS could have the front end if he breaks well and guns. He doesn’t try two turns all the often though. This barn is 14% sprint to route. SPIRIT OF CALEDON gets some pace to chase and goes for a top barn that we rarely if ever see here in Diodoro. We have seen one shipper from Canterbury at this meet and it won but it wasn’t from this barn. This gelding did win 2 and 4 back so maybe, just maybe, that bodes well for today. It is interesting that Kevin Smith gets a leg up and he has some wins of late including a 12-1 shot last Tuesday.

SECOND RACE

OMA LEE tried a turf sprint off the layoff two back and hated it. Or she just needed a race off the medium layoff. Then she tried five furlongs and ran evenly. Well, she should be all set for today’s elongated sprint. Her lone win came on this dirt and at .... yep, this distance. Nieves often rides for this barn (27%). We would gladly take half of 12-1 morning line. She draws outside which is another plus. BANKERS HONOUR just ran a tad better at 59-1. Lone local tries came versus special weights and she ran OK in both. We think she might like this distance. RED PRINCESS is better of late and now adds a full furlong. She draws the attack post and has some tactical speed which should make for a good to great trip.

THIRD RACE

MASSIVE PUNCH catches a race with little speed. He did beat half the field home in his debut. He caught the mud in both starts to date. His last race came back key when 3 of 6 returned to win with figs of 62, 44, and 47 (another finished 2nd with a 48 Beyer). LUCKY STREAKER ran sneaky OK two back on the grass. Then he ran his best race previously. Cut back in distance isn’t our favorite though. DR HESSE gets back to the dirt and lures Lozada. This is his first start where he draws outside.

FOURTH RACE

CHRISTEANA’S KISS is by a 6% debut turf sire. Her dam was un-raced. One of four sibs won on the grass and is a multiple winner of 32K. Those route tries 3 and 4 back on the dirt were promising. This filly might like the grass. CITY GONE COUNTRY has some prior turf tries that were solid. She goes second off the layoff and draws inside where she won’t be too far off the early pace. BETTY JOY’S STAR just missed on this sod only two back. That turf try four back was even better on the Beyer scale. Class drop could be the missing piece.

FIFTH RACE

KING FORMEREDITH ran a better than it looks third only two back. We like that he wants two turns again. We think he has a good running style for two turns. CROCODILE JACQUES has speed and drops in class. That should prove too much for these. On the other hand, he could be off form. Lozada gets a leg up so there is that. Unless the 6 shows zip, there just isn’t much pace in this race. Still, we would want more than 9/5 morning line all things considered. SPRING RODEO did win three back on this dirt. Not sure what happened last out other than it helps today’s price. That turf try two back was sneaky good.

SIXTH RACE

GERRYS BIG WIN faced Gulfstream foes in only career turf starts (GP and GPW). She held her own and is bred to like the green. You can’t fault her local debut last out when winning on the dirt as the chalk. She should be more acclimated now. Lozada hops on for Nicks and they are 1 for 1 at the meet. ROCKING SHOES is a new turf horse. She has good speed and draws nicely. SAINT KENNEDY has improved her Beyers in every turf start to date. Washed off the green last out so forget it. We like turf runners with speed on the cut back. AWESOME DAY could offer some supers value.

SEVENTH RACE

BUY ME THE RING drops in class and faces an average field. Turf tries were OK yet her turf breeding is poor. Lone dirt sprint came at Delta Downs in her debut and she broke 9th of 10. It is her race to lose. LITTLE T ran evenly in her debut and has every right to improve in her second start. Connections waste no time finding her an easier spot. Is this the money run? WHITNEY’S FLASH draws outside for the first time in her career. She could show some tactical speed.
