Harrington Pick 4 Analysis

On Monday, Harrington Raceway will present its marquee race of the year with the $150,000 Bobby Quillen Memorial. The 14-race card, which gets underway at 4:30 PM, also includes three $20,000 Delaware statebred races for 2-year-olds. With the Quillen kicking off a Pick 4, we’ll focus the analysis in that direction.

Race 8

Track officials did a fine job putting together a quality field for this year’s Quillen. With this being a half-mile track with solid speed on the inside of the gate, it’s hard to make a case for on-paper contenders Courtly Choice and Backstreet Shadow. (4) NONE BETTOR A looks like the most likely winner coming off a strong performance in the Great Northeast final and sporting an unbelievable 15-11-1-3 record in 2019. He’ll be sent to the front by driver Jason Bartlett and might not look back. (5) AMERICAN HISTORY set the track record at Yonkers two starts back and put in a strong mile from the eight-hole last time. He’s a clear player if the pace gets crazy up front. (2) SECTION LINE BIGRY is a bit of an unknown against Open foes at this point, but he has the early speed to get a pocket trip behind the top pick.

Race 9

We don’t have much to go by on paper, but that lone qualifier (3) PACQUIAO put in at Philly where he chased in a good mile should have him tight and ready for a big performance versus a suspect group. I see a wire-to-wire effort as being likely. (5) ELITE RETREAT improved on the trainer change and circuit switch. At 10-1 on the morning line, he seems worth including on at least one ticket.

Race 10

(3) CAJON LIGHTNING came in from Philly last week and blew away lesser while (4) TE KAWAU N arrives from the city of Brotherly Love this week having faced even better than #3 at the same track. One of the two should step up with a big mile.

Race 11

(2) THIS IS HOW WE DO IT looks like the clear choice coming off a strong second-place finish in this class last week, but he is far from a lock. (1) BUELLER has inside speed and the confidence of a win versus lesser last week. (5) GLENGARRY KNIGHT N arrives from Yonkers for a solid barn and it wouldn’t be a shock if he stepped up here.
