BEST BET: RACE 3, JUST CHILL

FIRST RACE

ISLEFORD tried two turns on the turf in her debut so bonus points just for that. She beat a few home so no big deal, right? Um, well, she dwelt at the start and then beat a few home so that try was actually quite positive. She should improve second time everything. This barn is a solid 14% on the grass and 18% when routing (flat bet profit for both). GABY’S DREAM has tried nothing but the turf in her two starts to date. She draws much better today and puts races together without a layoff for the first time. YOLANDA’S PRIDE just missed on this sod and it was her first turf start. Her turf breeding is better than most of these as that 331 turf Tomlinson can attest to. BETTER BEGIN is by a 17% debut turf sire. Her dam went 8-0-1-1 and earned 9K on the green. Lone sibling yet to start on the sod. She exits a key race where 2 of 4 returned to win with figs of 45 and 39.

SECOND RACE

STARSHIP APOLLO likes to win in general and specifically this dirt. We see enough seven furlong tries that hint at elongated sprint ability. Zayas gets a leg up so we expect this gelding to be forwardly placed. RESIDENT draws nicely and figures a better price than a few of these. He has won locally and likes this distance. EIGHTS AND ACES has some speed and some solid Beyer speed figures. This barn is 0 for 9 when returning a horse between 31-60 days though. We don’t see a recent work but perhaps that doesn’t matter as this gelding is rarely seen in the mornings.

THIRD RACE

That was quite the debut for JUST CHILL last December. She broke last while off slowly and then went five wide with traffic. She still finished 5th only beaten by two lengths. She should be more mature now and we like how connections return her in a spot where they can’t lose her. One of two sibs won on the grass. Race flow is fast so a good trip is assured if this filly can relax early. OFFSPRING just tried the turf for the first time along with two turns. A solid second was the result and that race has since come back key when 2

of 6 returned to win with Beyer of 72 (only one available). A closer look at that key race shows that all 6 that have run back finished either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. This filly has good turf breeding. BLAME THE GODS has some solid turf figs on her resume. Her debut came at Saratoga where she finished 3rd so she should be able to fire fresh. Her last race came back key when 2 of 7 returned to win with Beyers of 73 and 65 (another finished 2nd with a 77 figure). AERODYNAMIC is by a 7% debut sire and a 17% debut turf sire. Her dam was un-raced. Lone sib is 5-2-0-1 and earned 69K (missed the board in only turf start). ROCKPORT WIND is by a 6% debut sire and a 11% debut turf sire. Her dam went 14-1-1-2 and earned 50K (1-0-0-0 on the green). Lone sib missed the board in all four starts including two on the weeds.

FOURTH RACE

FIRST OFF if a 5YO coming off a long layoff so the alarm bells are ringing. With that said, this mare got an 82 Beyer in her maiden breaker and that race came back key when 3 of 6 returned to win with Beyers of 56, 53, and 56. Those winners won quite easily on top of that with margins of 6 1/2, 3 3/4, and 1 1/2. Works are well spaced and win rider returns in Lopez. BLUE BLUE ICE tried two turns for the first time last out and actually ran OK. Now she returns to one turn which is a 22% move for this barn. BARGAINAIRE gets in super light at 110 lbs. Recent tries are good and they came here.

FIFTH RACE

BAD TO THE CORE drops in class and figures a good trip off all the speeds. His last race came back key when 2 of 7 returned to win with Beyers of 77 and 81 (6 of 7 returned to finished either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd). This gelding draws nicely and did win his debut. BUNYAN’S AXE gets to save all the early ground and can pass runners. With today’s contested pace, that might be enough. This gelding finally won and perhaps he got a taste of winning and liked it. We have seen it before with these types. UNLIMITED DATA might get more of a stalking trip than others but that is fine if able to relax off the speeds. The outside post hurts a bit.

SIXTH RACE

EMPEROR’S SONG might be the value due to her poor debut effort. You know what? We can forgive anyone’s first start. Four of five sibs beat winners. Works at Palm Meadows are longer. SECRET MISS showed speed and tired in her debut so nothing wrong with that. This barn is 30% with their 2YO’s. Don’t we have to bite when this barn has a youngster at a price? TWO CENTS WORTH is by a 1 for 12 debut sire. Her dam went 7-3-1-1 for 221K (all as a 2YO). This is dam’s first foal. TALES OF FURY exits a key race where 2 of 6 returned to win with Beyers of 67 and 62.

SEVENTH RACE

BLOCKBUSTER did win his debut and it came on the grass. He tried graded foes in his second start and beat a few home at Keeneland. A wide trip when first on the FG sod two back. A dirt try before the long layoff was poor but it was on the dirt. This colt figures more mature now and we like that connections want the grass for his return. BELGRANO has solid turf figs including an 85 Beyer only two back at Saratoga. He goes third off the layoff and gets a weight break today. NOTORIOUS NICK is a very consistent runner on the Beyer scale. He just won nicely when first on this sod. Outside post can’t be helped.

EIGHTH RACE

DELIA’S PRIDE tried two turns on the grass last out and ran evenly. Why can’t she step forward second time this distance? Turf breeding is fine and this barn is more than capable on the green. MYSTIC SPARKLE is by a 5% debut turf sire. Her dam went 5-1-1-1 on the green and earned 26K. Lone grass sib missed the board in its only start. This barn is 25% dirt to turf and one for three with the blinkers OFF. QUEENOFTHEMINSTREL beat over half the field home in her debut and yes it came on the grass while routing. She got a poor trip last out. The blinkers go ON today.
