Shame On Powers brings speed

- By Mary Rampellini

Shame On Powers, a twotime stakes winner, has his rivals beat on credentials in the $145,000 Steve Prather on Monday at Zia Park. But he will be charting new territory in the race for 2-year-olds bred in New Mexico – it will be his first start at two turns.

The Prather is the final stakes of the Zia meet, which closes Dec. 18. The mile and 70-yard race has drawn a full field of 12, including Evacuee, winner of the $196,000 New Mexico State Fair Futurity in September at the Downs at Albuquerque.

Shame On Powers won his first stakes in May, when he romped by five lengths in the $60,000 C.O. Ken Kendrick Memorial at SunRay Park. He picked up the second stakes win of his career in the $143,000 Rio Grande Senor Futurity in September at Ruidoso Downs.
