FIFTH RACE

-

ELEGANT ROSE has run several recent figures that make her faster than her rivals in this spot as she drops own out of the starter allowance ranks for the first time since breaking her maiden by 12; not sure this is a negative class drop and she has speed. ENOUGH LOVE dropped out of MSW races last time and persevered late after appearing to not be doing enough around the turn and into the stretch; logically spotted by a very good trainer and can improve again. OUR TICKET earned a low figure for her maiden win and then failed to make an impression in any of her next four starts after being claimed; switched to this barn here opening week and was sent on a fast pace in a race that collapsed late; turns back an will be a big price.

SIXTH RACE

BLACKLINE took a big step forward when switched to turf for his second start and overpowered that field with a solid figure; has run well in his last two starts at Tampa, including that last one when keeping after a solid pace and then trying to battle the talented winner through the stretch; like the slightly shorter distance for him. UHTRED has run well in all five starts so far and he is a nice fit here, assuming he is ready off the layoff; entered at the right level but this is not an easy spot for the condition. SPIRIT ANIMAL has shown some talent from the start but he has had trouble putting races together or top connections; no argument with the class drop here as he seems unlikely to pan out now but he is tough in here with his typical race.

SEVENTH RACE

SCUTTLEBUZZ ran well first time out when taken in hand at the start and getting outrun, before angling in the stretch and putting in a good finish to fall just short, and he had no real chance last time when bumped at the start and being forced to steady out to last in a speed-dominated race; bred for turf being out of two-time turf winner and multiple stakes-placed Elusive Rumour and a half to two-time turf winner Myhartblongstodady. WALRUS GUMBOOT showed good speed first time out on dirt before tiring behind a talented runner in More Graytful; also bred for the surface switch being from a dam who was a two-time stakes winner sprinting on turf. ON THE COUCH a firster for a good trainer and he is bred for turf being a

EIGHTH RACE

REGAL RETORT has shown up every time so far at least when keeping her rider - and not so sure that catching four straight sloppy tracks along the way helped her, though she did win one of those races; dominated weaker with a good trip when back on fast dirt when last seen; has a long layoff to overcome here but appears to be training well and has upside. HONOR WAY has been admirably consistent since arriving in NY at the beginning of 2019 and she ran well when turned back last time to be clearly second-best to Honey I’m Good, who returned to wire the Harmony Lodge last week. NISHA got in too tough trying the Correction and the Harmony Lodge in her last two starts; has won 11 of her 17 starts vs. non-stakes company and she has the speed to keep close here in a race that doesn’t have a ton of pace signed on.

NINTH RACE

CAPTAIN BOMBASTIC looked good winning his first two vs. NY-breds, including the Sleepy Hollow with a 77 Beyer, then caught a sloppy track and didn’t have the best trip in that rich Stallion Series race behind Dream Bigger; wintered at Oaklawn going longer and came away second-best to a pair of quality runners, including Pneumatic who most recently finished 3rd in the Matt Winn with a 94 Beyer, cuts back. GANDY DANCING has not found an easy spot directly off his maiden win but he looked good winning that race while tracking a fast and contested pace before burying that field; forward to go for top connections. DREAM BIGGER was one of the better sprinters in this division last year/early this year while winning three stakes and earning solid figures but he has shown that he can be had while going favored in all seven starts; clearly a major player here.

TENTH RACE

CHANTRY FLATS kept coming up short going longer for Nevin then turned back to this distance over this course two starts back and scored with a 90 Beyer; like his speed and think this class drop is logical for now 5yo coming off a layoff. ALBIE took his career debut as a 2yo and hasn’t won since, though he has run well in those races while slowly improving his figures with every start; drops for his first start back. SHOOTIN THE BREEZE fits on figures and is also getting needed class relief for this; is 0-11 on turf so far but is stakes-placed on this surface and has the recent races that the top two do not have.
