How to play

- By Kenny Peck

RACE 5: SUNLIT SONG will take them as far as he can on the front end, and he should be able to use the rail to his best advantage. EASTER SNAP should appreciate the extra distance of this 1 1/8 mile Richard King Turf Stakes, as he’ll be looking to make the last run. BONJOUR BABY missed by just a neck in this race last year, just behind REDATORY. The latter is the one to beat despite making his first start in nearly four months, and he’s been training very well (4).

RACE 6: Lots of speed signed on for this sprint, which is appropriate enough for the Groovy Stakes. Looking for the closers to pick up the pieces in the lane, with GOLD PILOT, GOOD JUDGMENT and BUBBA BLING perhaps the best stretch runners in the field (3).

RACE 7: ALWAYS INTHE MUNNY is easy to like off that last figure, earned at Will Rogers Downs. NO MAS TEQUILA benefited from a perfect trip in that win over statebred allowance runners in her latest but her tactical speed could mean another ideal spot off the speeds. GEE SHE SPARKLES is another who figures to be in position to take advantage of a contested pace up front (3).

RACE 8: Taking a stand and a shot at some separation here with HERBS LOVE, 10-1 on the Morning Line but seemingly with a strong chance to spring the upset with the right kind of trip. She’ll be looking to close but there is speed to her inside and out, and she has been training very well toward her return. Note the win in December off a similar break, albeit against lesser (1).

RACE 9: This Star of Texas Stakes is another race which seems to offer an opportunity at some prices. UNBROKEN SONG merits a look on the strength of his last two Beyers and he should be in position to take advantage of the likely duel up front. GOLD BUYER is the top pick and perhaps the right value play in the race, coming off a pair of races where he had race flows excuses. COWBOY BLING ran well on the turf in each of his last two but he’s also proven on the main track, including his last dirt try three back, when he closed into a controlled pace (3).

THE PLAY: 1, 2, 3, 7 / 2, 6, 9 / 3, 6, 7 / 7 / 1, 6, 9 = 108 Combinations ($54 Ticket)
