BEST BET: RACE 3, COACH LORI

FIRST RACE

First-timers by leading Ontario Silent Name, who has a 14% strike rate with 2yo first-timers, could dominate this maiden special dash. CLEOMENES breezed an above-average half-mile June 18. SILENT MAMBA goes with blinkers and Lasix after working a quick half from the gate last Sunday. SECRETLY worked fast from the pole before a slow half from the gate last Sunday.

SECOND RACE

FLASHY PRINCESS closed from off hot fractions for third when meeting $25K maidens in her season opener. She’s dropping to a good spot, in which she has some speed to chase. SWEET SHADES is plunging from $40K with blinkers off, and her trainer has done well with +180 day layoff runners. With blinkers on, MARTINI SUE figures to be winging it up front for a while before tiring.

THIRD RACE

COACH LORI rallied for third behind the speedy Owlette and reigning Canadian champion 2yo filly Curlin’s Voyage when exiting an extended layoff in just her second start in the Star Shoot Stakes. She should be along in time in this N1X, unless JUXTAPOSE gets away with murder on the front end. The latter wired older NW3 opposition in her comeback, her third consecutive win under Husbands. Like the top pick, AMERICAN TAP is an in-form closer trained by Casse.

FOURTH RACE

KEEN ARTIE was steadied twice on the backstretch before closing on the far outside for second in his comeback on the Tapeta. He broke his maiden over this course and distance, and should take some beating if things go his way. BEXAR is bringing a decent turf pedigree into this experiment, and could take this field a long while stretching out off the claim. ZOOMER MUSIC, who graduated over this course, is coming off a troubled fourth in his return. Use WHITE WEDDING in the tri and super.

FIFTH RACE

MUNNINGS BEACH fought off a challenger for the lead before going on to a daylight maiden victory over 6 1/2 furlongs after a sabbatical June 18. She could strike again in this NW2 tilt in her second try for Barrow. LENCHES GIMME was a hanging second in both of her June starts in shorter sprints at this level. FIESTA IN VEGAS wasn’t far behind the latter in third after finding traffic June 7. Use her underneath in the exotics, along with CHEEKYLICIOUS.

SIXTH RACE

INVENTING BLAME nearly won a stakes for 3yos in June of last year on the main turf, but the son of Blame has been sidelined since a subpar showing in the July 20 Toronto Cup. The speedy Roger Attfield charge has been working right along, and could go coast-to-coast in this second-level optional claimer, in lane 3 on the inner course. COMBATIVE broke his maiden around these tight turns last August, and could wake up in his third start off the bench. HOLD’EMFORRANSOM also has some positive experience on the inner turf.

SEVENTH RACE

GOLDEN WAVE disappointed on the dirt at Gulfstream before earning his diploma with a 78 Beyer here on the Tapeta three weeks ago. He’s wellregarded by trainer Mike DePaulo, who’s enlisted Kimura after Stein decided to stick with Dotted Line. GLORIOUS TRIBUTE has worked like gangbusters here on the Tapeta since his lackluster season opener in a March 7 turf stakes at Tampa. DOTTED LINE got the winter off after capping his ‘19 campaign with two straight OS stakes

triumphs. His trainer has begun the meet slowly, and he figures to need one to help prepare him for the stretchout. Kentucky shipper HALO AGAIN rode a golden rail to victory here in the Coronation Futurity.

EIGHTH RACE

MR RITZ lost a nail-biter in this G2 stakes last year, after which he evolved into the top older male going long on the Tapeta in these parts. His tactical speed should come in handy after breaking from the middle of this seven-horse field. SOLIDIFY looked rejuvenated when he came from off slow splits to win his seven-furlong comeback going away under Husbands, who’s sticking with Mr Ritz. Note that Wilson took the G3 Grey on him two years ago at 2. AVIE’S FLATTER came up short after making a threatening bid in his seasonal bow in an open allowance on the inner turf. Perhaps the addition of blinkers will have him more focused for the move back to the Tapeta.

NINTH RACE

SPEEDY BOLT parlayed a three-wide stalking trip into a fast win (84 Beyer) vs. NW2 rivals in his season opener. He could double up after tracking all the speed in this N1X. CHUCK WILLIS crushed NW2 opposition in front-running style when returning from a long layoff a month ago. He looks to be the speed of the speed. WALKABOUT CREEK prevailed in a difficult starter handicap after a lovely inside stalking trip in his return. It’s hard to believe that the big bay ran for a pittance last fall with no takers. Use STORMFUHR in the lower rungs of the exotics.

TENTH RACE

SHIRL’S SPEIGHT is by the hot older sire Speightstown and out of Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner Perfect Shirl. The Fipke homebred is a fullbrother to a grass winner. BELICHICK is another first-timer with a superb turf pedigree. The pricey son of Lemon Drop Kid is a half-brother to turf stakes winner Season Ticket. JUST LIKE LARRY placed in six of his eight grass outings. Use him on the bottom of vertical wagers, along with U S ARMY CORPS.
