How to play

- By Kenny Peck

RACE 5:

BAYOU PROSPECTOR has speed and the rail and will take them as far as he can on the front end. ANGELUS WARRIOR is the main danger in the lane, and would benefit greatly from a contested pace up front (2).

RACE 6:

CLEAR THE MINE makes his first start off the claim for trainer Federico Villafranco, who wins at a solid rate with new faces. He comes off a loss and a sub-par Beyer but he chased a controlled pace there, and he should get a much improved race flow in his second start off the layoff. Since many of his main rivals here are coming off favorable pace scenarios, and thus have some holes, and he’s a horse with upside off his latest, he’s worth singling here (1).

RACE 7:

Going to use all 12 in this contentious Lady Canterbury, which is difficult to plot in terms of pace and seems ripe for a price. Top pick BEACH FLOWER is one of those longshots with some intrigue, getting back on the turf upon shipping up from Oaklawn, but there are several runners in here offering value (12).

RACE 8:

LAWTON was game in defeat when last seen, dueling for the lead from the start and weakening only late; he can also rate, however, and if he can take back off the pace and make one run he may be good enough at a square price, as the pace figures to be quick. WELLABLED has high speed, and he also has the best Beyers in the field; he’s a must-use based on his Beyers, despite the expected race flow (2).

RACE 9:

OKIE LOGIC has good early zip and draws the rail and may be quick enough to shake loose with a clean break. POLARCENTS drops in for a tag for the first time since March and fits well here in terms of Beyers. BISCOTTINI lost her best chance at the start in her local debut, as she was left with too much to do in a race where the speeds held the edge in terms of race flow; alert start can make all the difference today. MISS AGGLE BLING middle-moved in her debut and then got caught up in a duel in her 2nd career start; first time for a tag today. ALITTLE BIT TECHIE makes her first start for trainer Robertino Diodoro, who wins at a high rate with new faces; she has already proven herself to be versatile to lead or rate (4).

THE PLAY: 1, 4 / 4 / ALL / 4, 6 / 1, 3, 4, 6, 9 = 240 Combinations ($120 Ticket)
