BEST BET: RACE 2, DULCE RIDE

FIRST RACE

FASHION ISLAND must overcome the wide post in the opener, but like that last out she finished in front of some of the chief contenders in this spot and that she has an age edge on SHAKE IT UP TRACY as she is 4. The latter finished right behind top choice last time, and draws a better post than that rival. ORATORY GLORY ran a big race at a similar distance back in March at Sam Houston.

SECOND RACE

DULCE RIDE was second to a quality kind of winner at this distance last out at Lone Star. For the effort she earned what ranks as this field’s best last-race Beyer Figure. DULCE RIDE has a chance to slip away in this spot. CEDAR HALL hooked a runner last out in Final Form, who is a two-time winner at the current meet and who owns one of the local season’s best Beyer Speed Figures. BRILLIANT SLEW is back on the main track and the last time she ran on dirt she was a big second at this distance, earning a strong Beyer Figure.

THIRD RACE

BIG TINY has class appeal as one who has been plying her trade against steeper. She also is moving back to the distance of her maiden win. TOP HAT CHARMER has a chance to control the pace. OKIE TOAST has reason to move forward in her second start since November. She has an age edge on top two as she is 6.

FOURTH RACE

TRUE SAINT is a consistent sort who was prominent over a laboring kind of track last time. He might be best suited with a fast strip, as his maiden win came over such surface. The distance he shortens up to here might also play to his strengths as a runner with the speed. FULL TRIGGER meets winners for the first time off the dominant maiden score for which he earned what ranks as the best career Beyer Figure in this field. A repeat of that performance might make him tough to handle in this spot. TEXAS WARRIOR is a twotime winner facing some less-experienced rivals.

FIFTH RACE

VISUAL MAGIC should be sharp for the move to two turns off the seven-eighths start in which she set the pace and was just edged. She also has an age edge on some of these as she is 4. WEEKEND FUN is another making the move to two turns, and also is a fresh horse as this marks her first out since April. This one gets pedigree support for the added ground. NELLIE DEE moves back to two turns, and has been effective at a mile in the past. She also could be sitting on a peak race in the third start of her form cycle. Another of interest on the move to two turns is the Sky Mesa filly GLORIOUS ROSE, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Taxman’s Quest ($116K).

SIXTH RACE

YOUNG PHILLIP makes the move to turf for a stallion who is getting 9 percent winners from his firsttime turfers and 9 percent winners overall on the grass. This one is coming off a five-eighths of a mile start. MAINTAINANCE MATT was second for this price last out and is a logical choice back. GOLD SPEED GO faced older rivals for the first time last out and ran a credible race. The start came against steeper. Another who fits well is SOURNOIS.

SEVENTH RACE

TAKE CHARGE WOMAN has run second in her three main track sprint starts and seems due to graduate soon. She is a half-sister to Ima Discreet Lady, a multiple stakes winner who has earned $212K. SWEET LINDA is back on dirt and her closest finishes to date have come on the main track. NIGHT N RED SATIN moves back to the maiden ranks after facing stakes foes. GIDGET is from a Grade 2-placed mare who won three races and earned $147K.

EIGHTH RACE

CAIRO KING is back on dirt and the last time he ran on the main track he was second by a nose at this mile distance. The start came in April at Will

Rogers. INSURRECTION ran a credible race last out in his first start against winners. The drawback here is the wide post. JAPEDO moves back to two turns and he’s proven effective at the trip.

NINTH RACE

MO GEE must deal with the widest gate, but he ran a strong race at this distance last out and the start was his first in three months. He would seem to have reason to move forward in his second race back. DAUNTLESS PRINCE is a versatile sort as a winner on both dirt and turf. He could be sitting on a peak effort in the third start of his form cycle. PROMONTORY draws a useful kind of post and as a rule has been quite consistent.
