BEST BET: RACE 2, DAD’S MISSY

FIRST RACE

SAYSO is going from the OS/$40K level to meet easier NW2 company in this $25K seller. Seven-eighths on the Tapeta appears to be her preferred trip. GRATEFUL PRAISE broke outward before a four-wide stalking trip and then hung late when losing her local debut in a shorter sprint at this class. BOSSALINA came from fourth to finish a distant second last time in a slow-paced sprint for $25K sophomore fillies.

SECOND RACE

DAD’S MISSY rallied wide from off sleepy fractions for third in her improved second race off the bench vs. $25K 3yo fillies. She’s meeting older $15K NW2 distaffers here with the red-hot leading Hernandez taking over. CAROLINA GRACE got away slowly before closing wide to finish second for the fifth time against lesser NW2 stock in her comeback. DONT GET SMART is turning back to a distance that’s a half-furlong shorter than her maiden triumph, with Stein riding for a live barn.

THIRD RACE

FIESTA IN VEGAS appears to lay over this group of NW3 types off a fast (68 Beyer) nearly five-length score traveling 6 1/2 furlongs vs. NW2 foes July 4. Hernandez retains the mount for McKnight, a successful combo. SADIE IRENE looks next best off back-to-back thirds to start the meet. This barn’s runners tend to improve as the meet goes on. WARNING BELLE is competing on a synthetic surface for the first time off a decent fourth in his local debut on the inner turf. SIMPLY MYSTERIOUS should show more with the addition of Lasix.

FOURTH RACE

I’M A GINGER rallied inside from third for an authoritative score against $10K maidens in her second start off a freshening July 5. She earned a good 62 Beyer that day, and the Beyer for this NW2 level is 53. MISS VERRAZANO has been a disappointment since her blowout maiden victory on opening day, but she’s made her way down to where she could get back on track. CHEEKYLICIOUS figures to pick up some of the pieces in her fourth start back.

FIFTH RACE

SPANISH BALLERINA has won two five-furlong dashes in a row, most recently vs. NW2 OS/$40K opposition on the inner turf. She could strike again as the speed of the speed in this NW3 on the inner. HAI BOBBI tracked the early leaders before going in for the kill when coming off the shelf in a recent NW2 tilt on the Tapeta. Her lone turf try last summer at Saratoga wasn’t bad. BONNIE LEE, like the top choice, is a front-runner with an inner turf score on her resume.

SIXTH RACE

BOARDROOM overcame getting squeezed between rivals at the break before closing four-wide for a good-looking maiden special debut score June 27. The stretchout from 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 furlongs shouldn’t be an obstacle for this $475K juvenile buy, who’s taking on the boys in this N1X. LONTANO was also a pricey juvenile purchase last year. He graduated second-time out with an 81 Beyer on the Fair Grounds turf in March, before failing to challenge in a key N1X mile at Churchill. CLEANUP TIME has been working right along for his first local excursion following a productive winter stint in New Orleans.

SEVENTH RACE

CITY BOY faded to fifth after a three-wide stalking trip when coming off the sidelines in the G2 Connaught Cup. That tightener should set him up perfectly for this open allowance going six furlongs, the distance of his upset score in last year’s G2 Nearctic. MALIBU SECRET placed behind the mighty Pink Lloyd in each of his last two outings in graded stakes. He’s winless on the grass, but hasn’t tried the turf since Drexler claimed him for a bargain $40K Sept. 2 and deserves another chance on it. REAL MONEY beat second-level optional-claiming rivals last time over this course and distance after dueling through soft splits. He shouldn’t be out of his league with these.

EIGHTH RACE

JUSTCALL ME CANDY is descending to a new low in this bottom $7.5K maiden sprint, while cutting back from seven to 5 1/2 furlongs. She could put it all together with the addition of blinkers. CLASSY N’ SILENT, who’s also adding blinkers, is halving in value off a race during which she went too fast up front before folding. EIGHT SPEED is shedding the hood for the big drop from OS/$40K competition. SOUP DU JOUR is eligible to pick up some of the pieces with Kimura taking over.
