BEST BET: RACE 7, MARKET ALERT

FIRST RACE

ROSSA VELOCE made a highly-promising debut last month while keeping after a solid pace from the start and then gamely turning away a strong challenge from SUMMER BREW in the stretch to prevail; earned a field-best 77 Beyer for the effort and figures tough right back as she steps up. SUMMER BREW ran well in her own right in that debut while taking that big run at ROSSA VELOCE and then staying gamely to the finish while second-best; maiden is dangerous right back with that experience behind her. MAKE MISCHIEF back in with NY-bred after settling for 2nd in a pair of graded stakes earlier in the meet; has tactical speed breaking from the rail and is logical on the drop.

SECOND RACE

JUDGE N JURY failed to break sharply from the gate and then bobbled after the start of his career debut last month, and he did well after that to just get outfought for 2nd behind an experienced winner; can build off that promising run with a better start as she moves outside. BOHEMIAN RUBY was away from the gate with the field first time out, but he lacked early speed in that spot and wound up getting outrun to the top of the stretch; raced on all the way to the end without threat, and then galloped out well past the wire in a useful effort and benefits from the added distance he sees here. WORK OUT broke alertly in the same race as the top one and pressed that advantage by going to the lead, then wound up between horses contesting it before proving to be no match for winner Effinity in the stretch; fought on to outfinish JUDGE N JURY for 2nd at the end; breaks from the rail again.

THIRD RACE

CHESTERTOWN hasn’t lived up to the $2 million price tag yet but he has shown some potential along the way and lands in the right spot here going long after failing to land a blow in the tough Peter Pan last time; bit of a concern that he tried to bolt as the favorite vs. fellow state-breds two back but he had never done that before and was professional last time with blinkers on. CITY MAN has run well on turf recently but he is equally effective on the main track and won both races over a different main track up here as a 2yo; distance a bit of a question but he should be legged up now following two turf routes. MICROSECOND also going turf to dirt for this after breaking his maiden on the grass last time with another new top figure; hasn’t won on dirt yet but has run well in all three main track starts.

FOURTH RACE

MARTINEZ debuted sprinting on opening weekend and came though with a promising effort that day while getting away last from the gate and rating at the back early, before coming wide and putting in a good finish while still looking a bit green; stretches out with that solid run to build on. HALPERT a firster by top turf influence More Than Ready and from a female family full of turf performers; Englehart has been quiet with his first time starters this year but emerged as one of the better debut trainers on the circuit over the past couple of years. ACTION JACKSON’s sire, Union
