HORSES TO WATCH AT FASIG-TIPTON YEARLING SALE

The following are horses to watch, based on pedigree alone, at the Fasig-Tipton select yearlings showcase on Sept. 9-10 in Lexington, Ky. This list reflects catalog updates and sale outs through Sept. 1.

SELLING ON WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 9

Hip No. 73, colt by Mission Impazible – Tizfiz, by Tiznow. Consigned by Sequel New York, agent.

This New York-bred colt is a halfbrothe­r to Belmont Stakes winner Tiz the Law, who is expected to start in the Kentucky Derby the Saturday prior to this sale. Their Grade 2-winning dam, a halfsister to Grade 2 winner Fury Kapcori, also produced stakes-placed Awestruck. This is the family of Horse of the Year Favorite Trick.

Quality Road, who has risen to become one of the elite sires in the country, is crossed over Irish 1000 Guineas winner Marvellous, dam of stakes winner Fort Myers. Marvellous is a full sister to multiple European classic winner Gleneagles, Group 1 winner Happily, group stakes winners Coolmore and Taj Mahal, and Irish classic-placed Vatican City. Their dam, Group 2 winner You’resothrill­ing, is a full sister to champion and leading sire Giant’s Causeway.

This colt, by leading sire and emerging sire of sires Into Mischief, is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Made You Look. His second dam is Hall of Fame racemare and blue hen Serena’s Song, making Night and Day a half-sister to Group 1 winner Sophistica­t, graded stakes winners Grand Reward, Harlington, and Schramsber­g, and stakes winners Serena’s Tune and Serene Melody. This is the family of champion and emerging young sire Honor Code.

Grade 2-placed Pretty ’n Smart is the dam of Grade 1 winner Cupid, graded stakes winners Heart Ashley and Ashley’s

Kitty, and stakes winner Indianapol­is; Heart Ashley is the dam of Japanese Grade 3 winner Fiano Romano. Pretty ’n Smart’s 11 yearlings sold at public auction have averaged $748,182, led by a sale-leading $2.7 million for Sotto Voce at the 2017 Keeneland September yearling sale.

This is the penultimat­e crop for the late Pioneerof the Nile, sire of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Quickest is the dam of Grade 1 winner Callback, who sold for $2.8 million as a broodmare prospect and again for $2 million as a broodmare last fall; Quickest also was represente­d by a weanling filly sold for $1 million in 2017. In addition to her Grade 1winning daughter Callback, Quickest is the dam of stakes winner and producer Defy Gravity. Quickest is a half-sister to Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver and graded stakes winners Brethren and Cyrus Alexander. This is the family of champion Rhythm, prominent sire Not For Love, and Grade 1 winners Bluegrass Cat, Girolamo, and Imagining.

Hip No. 327, filly by Curlin – Rigoletta, by Concerto. Consigned by Gainesway, agent.

This filly, by a prominent classic sire and out of a Grade 1 winner, is a halfsister to Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner and Kentucky Derby third-place finisher Battle of Midway. SELLING ON THURSDAY, SEPT. 10

Hip No. 350, filly by Mastery – Shared Account, by Pleasantly Perfect. Consigned by Sam-Son Farm.

This filly, from the first crop of her unbeaten sire, is out of Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner Shared Account, making her a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Sharing and stakes winner Riley’s Choice.

Hip No. 353, filly by Arrogate – She Be Wild, by Offlee Wild. Consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent.

This is the first crop for champion and leading money winner Arrogate, who will have only three crops in total. She Be Wild was an Eclipse Award champion juvenile filly who was Grade 1-placed at 3. Grade 1 winner Carson Hollow also appears on the catalog page.

Hip No. 389, filly by Into Mischief – Storm Dixie, by Catienus. Consigned by Paramount Sales, agent.

Stakes-placed Storm Dixie is the dam of Princess of Sylmar, a four-time Grade 1 winner who took the 2013 Kentucky Oaks. Storm Dixie also produced stakes-placed Biblical, and this is the family of Canadian champion Youcan’tcatchme.

Hip No. 426, filly by Tapit – Treasuring, by Smart Strike. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales, agent.

Tapit is a perennial leading sire and commercial sire, and this stakes-winning mare is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Streaming. She also is a half-sister to stakes winner Cascading and to multiple stakes producer Achieving, dam of $3.65 million juvenile Cezanne. This filly’s third dam is blue hen Better Than Honour, dam of Kentucky Oaks and Belmont Stakes winner and champion Rags to Riches and fellow Belmont winner Jazil, among others.

Multiple Grade 1-winning millionair­e Winter Memories – one of several stakes winners out of fellow multiple Grade 1winning millionair­e Memories of Silver – is the dam of stakes winner Winter Sunset.

This is the second foal out of Grade 1 winner American Cleopatra, a full sister to Triple Crown winner and leading freshman sire American Pharoah. American Cleopatra also is a full sister to Group 3-placed St Patrick’s Day and a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Chasing Yesterday, by Tapit.

Antics is the dam of six winners from as many starters, led by the brilliant Covfefe, a dual Eclipse champion last year. She also has produced Group 3 winner Albiano and stakes-placed Going Day.
